LO just started daycare last week at 3 months old. Our provider had to miss a couple days d/t a family emergency.
I am lucky because we have a back up daycare thru work. It's great because it's near work and I can nurse him on breaks. Yesterday I was there and there are 2 teachers in the infant room and 5 babies. Mine the youngest. One of the teachers is sniffling and coughing constantly.
I am a little disturbed but think maybe it's allergies, etc. But she is coughing a ton! It bothers me so, I talk to my husband who agrees that is not great. So, we call and speak with the director. Turns out the teacher has a cold which "no one" knew about. So, they moved her out of the infant room for now.
I think that's great that she was moved but I am still disturbed she was in there in the first place. Opinions? What have you experienced with this type of situation?
Maybe I am overly protective but don't have sick workers around infants!
Re: Daycare = what do you think?
Hmmmm. I'd be uneasy, not going to lie. And I'm a pretty laid back momma. Our DD has been in all types of daycare situations- center, home based, nanny, and I've never felt that she was put in a position where she might be made sick. She's at a great center now and I imagine that if a teacher was showing signs of sickness they'd send her out the door immediately.
I'd talk w/ the director further and voice your concerns. Beyond that, if you're happy with everything else in the center I'd chalk it up as a fluke. But if there are other things you're not satisfied with I'd start looking around. I know it's so hard to shop around for childcare, but you want to feel good about where you're leaving your child. GL!
