Recommend your SUV

First off I'm fine. I had a wreck this afternoon coming home from work a man pulled out infront of me and I smacked him pretty hard. So I really think my Jeep Patriot may be totaled. (Air bags deployed, front end smashed really bad, windshield cracked, and they cut my engine line, ect.) I had an Escape that I loved about 5 years ago. So I thought about one of those...there are just some many nice SUVs out there now. Let's here your rants and raves about your SUVs!!! Thanks ladies!!

Re: Recommend your SUV

  • I have a Toyota 4Runner Sport, and LOVE it!  I have never had any problems with it, and only have had routine maintenance.  I will say that I do really like the GMC Acadia that is out now and might go that route if they would have been available when I bought mine.  I like the layout on the inside of them (bucket seats, third row, etc.)

DH has a Chevy Tahoe and we LOVE it also!  It has much, much more room than my 4Runner and seems a little more "luxurious."

We got great deals on both of our cars.  I recommend really spending time online on autotrader.com, etc. looking for the best deals.  When we bought my car we dealt with the online salesman for Hoover Toyota and really talked him down a lot in price.  It was nice to walk in with a price in hand for the car we wanted.  We also bought the manager demo, so we got it for used price even though it only had 2,800 miles on it.

    Allie ~ 01/26/09 ~ 7 lbs, 9 oz ~ 20.75 in. & Amelia ~ 03/16/11 ~ 8 lbs, 1 oz ~ 21 in.

  • I have a Lexus RX350 and I love it!  It drives like a car, so it doesn't feel big and bulky at all.  It has alot of trunk space and is very comfy on the inside.  I'm sad that I have to get something different, but with 3 kids we will need
    3rd row seating.

  • Oh Erin, glad you're okay- what a blessing that you weren't hurt!

I have an Acura MDX- it has really good safety ratings; a Honda engine {!}; great resale value/nice depreciation rate; 3rd row but I keep mine folded down & can easily fit both the jogging stroller & travel stroller plus luggage & baby gear; also have a DVD player {great for Baby Einstein!} & one of my fave features is the seat warmers =)

I also have a Toyota 4Runner and I LOVE it!!  It's a great midsize SUV and it also gets great gas mileage.   Toyota's generally require really low maintenance and will run forever.  I would like to have a Tahoe, however they don't get very good gas mileage, so I'm sticking with the 4Runner.

Glad your ok and weren't hurt in the wreck.

  • We have a Hyundai Veracruz.  It's similar to the Lexus RX350, except that it does have 3rd row seating.  I LOVE it!  It's my second Hyundai and I've yet to have a complaint about either of them.  Gas mileage---eh...not so great, but totally comfortable and extremely affordable.  Tons of trunk space if you don't have the 3rd row seating up.  I used to be scared to drive SUV's until I had this one...I have issues with height, lol!  Now, I can't think of driving a regular car again.

ETA:  I'm glad that you weren't hurt in your accident!!!!

  • Glad to hear you're alright, that sounds very scary!!  I really liked our Toyota Rav4... I had a 2005 model and it got fairly good gas mileage for a small SUV.  I loved the way it drove and thought it was cute too.  The only thing I didn't like was that you had to physically remove the seats, they didn't fold into the floor... I *think* they may have changed this on later models when they redesigned it a few years ago.  Good luck with your decision.  If we get another SUV, we will probably check out the Honda CR-V... the main thing I'm holding out for is the ability to fold the seats into the floor... it is so helpful when trying to haul things!

I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee, DH has an Acura MDX. We really like both of our vehicles and have never had a problem w/ either. DH's does have a little more room + the 3rd row seating option though.
  • Don't have an SUV but I just wanted to say that I'm glad you were not hurt!!! ((hugs))
  • So glad you're okay!

I had a Ford Escape before I got my current car and LOVED IT.  Sometimes I wish I had it back.  We traded it in for a Ford Edge though, and I really do love the Edge, the Escape was just smaller/sportier.  The Edge is wider and has more interior space though and that's really why we got it.

I had the Escape when I was a nanny and had two Britax carseats in it with no problems -- both rear and forward-facing -- if that's something that concerns you for the future.

We do love the edge and all of it's features, but it doesn't get the same gas mileage my Escape did and it seems lower to the ground to me.  I can step into it without side rails and I couldn't do that with the Escape.  It drives much more like a car than the Escape did.

    GL and have fun choosing!

  • I have a Chevy Tahoe & I love it.  If you want an SUV that does not sit up as high as the Tahoe I would recommend the Chevy Traverse.  A friend has one & I LOVE IT!!!

  • Glad you are OK!

We have a 2011 Kia Sorento (the ones they make in West Point).  We had a Corolla, but with all the Toyota recalls and the baby, we had to upgrade (I couldn't sit in the front seat). We LOVE the Sorento.  It gets good gas mileage and rides very smoothly.  You can get a 3rd row, but we opted not to bc we wanted more cargo room.  We looked at the Murano and CR-V, but the Sorento was bigger.  We've taken it to Chattanooga and to a family reunion and it easily fits all of James' gear and our stuff.

  • We have a 4Runner also and love it!  If I could get a larger SUV, though, I would.  I would love to have a Sequoia, or Tahoe would be a second choice.

I love the sequoia's but have you seen the price tag?  They are ridiculous expensive!  The black ones are fine!

  • well I have an older envoy and I hate hate hate it.  :)  It's not big enough.  when you go to test drive, bring all of your "stuff" and see how it fits.  the biggest complaint I have about our envoy - is that in the front seat there isn't enough room for your 'stuff' - like your cell phone, purse, wallet, bottle of water, etc.
  • I don't have an SUV right now but I have my eye on the GMC Acadia or the Chevy Traverse when we have another baby!

Gook luck in your search! So glad you weren't hurt!

  • We have a Honda CR-V and I love it!  This is my third Honda.  I previously drove an accord and we got the CR-V for a little extra space.  It drives great and has lots of trunk space.

Yes ma'am!  Ridiculously expensive!!!  There are a few around town that I drool over ;)

  • Don't have an SUV but I wanted to say that I'm glady you're okay!
  • I'm in the market for one, I've got my eye on the Honda Pilot.  I've been spoiled to Honda's though.  My mom has a traverse and loves it and my brother has a tahoe with the third row seating and they love it as well.  I've also heard good things about the Acura MDX.

Also super glad you weren't hurt.  That must suck though to mess up your Patriot..you haven't had it for long have you?  The last time I saw you you still had your car.

  • Why not get a minivan?

I have a Caravan(granted they don't make them anymore) but I love it. The Grand Caravans are awesome.

If I were to get an SUV, I would probably get a 4Runner though. I have a ton of friends with them and they LOVE them.
