F/U Today Sucks

I think I have come to terms with the guilt from smacking my doggie. She seems to have forgiven me, anyway. Although she did poop on the floor again while I was at work!!! I made a training appt for her on thursday night. I dont know what's with her but she started acting out when we got our cat in december... and since the BFP she's been OUT OF CONTROL!!! I guess I've just been to bus with other things to spoil her the way I used to!

Anyone else having animal issues since the BFP?

  • my dogs crapped three times yesterday while I was gone and smeared one of the poops all over the floor. I was beyond livid. My dogs are sometimes acting like brats, but I haven't noticed any major issues with them since the BFP.

We don't have a dog, but I am around my parents dog a lot and he is VERY hyperactive. He's a Bichon but has the personality of a Jack Russel Terrier. But ever since the BFP, (actually, starting a few days prior), he just wants to snuggle in my lap when I'm over there. I wouldn't have noticed except that it is SO out of character for him. My grandparents-in-law have a Poodle that is the same way the few times I've seen him recently. So weird.

I have a male and he marks all over the house- when we are watching him, not home, when he is mad at us, basically whenever the mood strikes him. Unfortunately... this is not since the BFP but since forever!

How did you find your trainer? Did you just google certified animal trainer? I really want Cesar Milan to come out to my house but since that is unlikely... I need someone else. I think Marty would give Cesar a tough time, challenge some of the concepts in his book. This dog WANTS to be top dog. Grrrrr

My mom used the trainer, and offered me the number. I had brushed her off because our little shelter pup had made so much progress on her own but today I swallowed my pride and called??

Are you freaking out about having a baby in a house full of animal mess??? I am, but DH says its a phase and I'm over reacting!!

  • my dog has been extreemly clingy to me since i've been pregnant. But she's a very good girl.?
  • I have heard that pets, especially dogs, can sense when women are pregnant. Maybe your pups are just reacting to your HCG levels...
  • Yes!  This is gross...and almost made me vomit, but DS was sick and puked in his crib (which was not a problem).  I removed his crib sheet and mattress cover and placed it in our hallway so I could bathe DS.  What does our older dog Katie do???  Poops on the pukey linen!  Nice...Ick!

  • I have 2 dogs.  Both have been acting normal since the BFP.  My theory is that a dog's behavior reflects how we are feeling ourselves.  Your dog may be acting out because you have been feeling anxious and stressed.  People that are feeling very calm and happy about their pregnancies may be exuding energy that is attractive to the dogs to be around and that is why they want to cuddle and be close.  Personally, I have been trying to ignore my pregnancy because if I think about it too much I get anxious because of my loss.  So my dogs aren't acting any different.  Just a theory.  Good luck with the trainer.  I hope they can help.
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

Dh avoids the problems with him by saying it is my fault b/c I am not dominant, there is not a problem, he will change when the baby comes, or he is so cute it doesn't matter. this is why this situation has not improved- we do not see eye to eye!

Sorry to agree with you DH, but a dog that marks your house is taking charge and doesn't see you as dominant.  Marking in front of you is actually about as disrespectful as it gets.  Some really easy ways to start asserting your dominance is to make him wait to take food and treats, don't let him walk in front you on walks, don't let him leave a room or the house first.  My dog refuses to walk in front of me even around the house.

This is a problem I would take seriously before the baby comes.  He very well could mark the baby and if he doesn't respect you, he will not respect your boundaries with the baby and that could be dangerous.  Good luck, I hope you find a trainer that works for you.

Unfortunately, it sounds like your dog doesn't see either of you as dominant.  Just as much DH's fault as yours.

  • I hit and killed a bird today on my way to work. It flew right under my tire. Feathers everywhere. Wasn't wearing waterproof mascara so had to fight the tears extra hard. Love animals. Have 4 furbabies (2 dogs/2 cats) and they've been good since the BFP...I think they know...:)
