I went to the Dr. this morning for a checkup and a growth u/s. Miller is measuring 5lbs and 4ozs. He's also measuring 35 weeks and 2 days as opposed to what I really am which is 32 weeks and 1 day. In addition to being a big baby, he's also breach. I know there's still time for him to turn, yet the u/s tech didn't seem to think that he had the room to turn. I also know that the u/s can be off by a pound either up or down, but even if they are wrong he's still measuring big.
Everything else checks out good, however my swelling is out of control. I've done everything that's recommended to bring the swelling down but nothing works. The Dr. wrote me a prescription for Jobst Hose and to get a support belt. I have to go back in 1 week so they can monitor the swelling in my hands and feet.
Have any of ya'll dealt with really bad swelling or used some sort of support hose? I just can't deal with it for much longer. Not only is the swelling bad, it's really painful.
Re: Baby is on the larger side
I didn't really swell until 38 weeks, but my chiropractor told me to lie down and with my feet elevated, trace out the ABCs. He said it would help push the fluid back.
Also, they estimated James to be 8.5-9lbs after my last u/s at 41 weeks and he was only 7lbs 4oz. So those can be WAY off!
SO sorry about the swelling. Mine was really bad at the end of last week and has eased up the past few days. No tips really on what to do other than get as much rest as possible, prop those feet up, drinks LOTS of water and stay away from salt.
Regarding big babies...let me tell you they rock!!! K estimated 7lbs 11oz at 36 weeks. When she was born at 39wks 5 days she was 10lbs 2 oz. Those growth u/s CAN be 'right'. This little one is measuring 4 weeks ahead and we have a growth u/s tomorrow. I can't wait to see what her estimate is.
Good luck and hang in there!!!
I swelled up pretty good the last few months of pregnancy.
Drink LOTS of water, really watch your salt, limit starchy carbohydrates (consider going high protein), keep your feet elevated at night, try to exercise. Walking and swimming are great ways of low impact aerobics. Even if you just go float in the water
Eat naturally diuretic foods - watermelon, cucumbers, asparagus, lemons are all good sources.
If you have tendinitis at all (I did), wear a brace. Put your feet up at work if you can.
good luck! the swelling is NO FUN!!!
I would try drinking lots of water, elevating your feet (my doctor always said to do it above the level of your heart) and cutting out salt.
I've had to wear compression pantyhose before (I've had surgery on both my legs) and I'll tell you... those pantyhose are NOT fun and they are hot. I can only imagine having to wear those while pregnant!

I hope the support hose help with the swelling...so sorry that you're in pain!
As for the size, take it with a grain of salt...PJ was supposed to be a "big", estimated 7lb3oz at 35 weeks but was only 6lb, 15oz when I had him...I kinda feel like he would have been a good bit larger had I carried him longer than 37w4d...you never know
Have they looked at a date yet if he doesn't decide to turn on his own?
Bless your heart! I don't have any different advice from what was given...I swelled up pretty bad my last 4 weeks but not to where I had to wear compression hose. I hope it goes down soon!
Growth sounds can go either way, but I will say that they told me Aubrey was about 6lbs at 36 weeks...4 weeks later when she was born at 40wks1day she was 7lbs14ozs...so that kinda fit with the whole 1/2 a lb to 1 pound thing that they tell you babies grow in the last few weeks. I hope he turns for you!

also, try to eat leafy greens, and take warm baths in epsom salt (2 cups of ES in your bath, and do it about 3x/wk). i had minimal swelling, luckily, but the warm baths have helped so much. good luck!
