Stupid question but....I noticed alot of you have had 3D/4D u/s for the big u/s. Did the dr do it on their own or did you pay for it? I am having mine tomorrow and they have the machine for it. If you did pay for it, how much extra was it?
Ours was voluntary. We went to an off-site place at around 16 weeks because we wanted to know the gender. We paid $100, but got a whole package with it.
The first ultrasound I had at the dr.'s was for the pre-natal testing, and the US tech did a 3D US for us, just because. This had me really excited for the 20 week US thinking we'll have a great picture of our baby boy, and to our surprise, the same tech didn't do it because she said the office didn't like her doing them that way. That it was unnecessary.
So, I guess it's just up to your office, or maybe you can request. We asked her to do ours, and that's when she told us she was no longer allowed. Oh, and it was free!
The office we were sent to had the equipment, and they had a package with all sorts of goodies for $160. We declined it, but when my friend went the tech printed her a couple 3d/4d pics out for free!
cool. Thanks. I am hoping to get a glimpse at LO in 3D now that they look a little less "alien like". I will keep my fingers crossed and work some charm with the u/s tech
Mine was done in the office. We did the 2D first to get the measurements. Then we looked at the 3D/4D one. It was very short though. I actually prefer the 2D only because its easier form me to see what I am looking at at 20 weeks and they look a little less alien like. But it was neat to take a peak in 4D.
I had my big u/s yesterday, and it was mostly 2D but it's the same machine and she flipped it into 4D for a little while toward the end. For me, it's because I just turned 35, so now I'm in the "advanced maternal age" high risk category, even though I am not actually high risk at all. It's just the line they draw, so I lucked out and got to see this one in 4D... it's pretty cool... he looks a TON like DS#1!

This. I was surprised the first time we went and we got some 3D images. It was a nice surprise. Not all facilities have that technology though.
