We got the crib, 4 drawer chest and cubbie changer. Even once we don't have the changing pad on top of it, we can still use it as a regular dresser and use the cubbies to hold books and toys.
Didn't have one for DS, just used a changing pad on his dresser. Worked just fine.
We did get one for DD, because I liked the looks of it, and I do really like having it. It looks cute with baskets and does the same job as a dresser, just gives her room more of a nursery style. I like that it has little compartments on the top to store her changing supplies.
So - not necessary, but I do like having one.

I never had one or a changing pad for my ds. This time, I bought a dresser/changing table for dd with a changing pad on top. I know that it will love it. It is not necessary, but I am sure that it is nice to have.

We use a dresser w/ a pad on top. I LOVE having it, now especially! Will is so squirmy anymore that it's pretty much impossible to change him anywhere but there. It keeps him confined
We have this and I still change him on a contoured pad on the dresser top most of the time.
OMG....look how teenytiny A is!!! CUTE!!!
We have a "traditional" changing table and we use it all the time. It looks adorable with the baskets & offers a lot of storage so I like it. If I had it to do all over again, I would probably have gotten a dresser and just put a changing pad on top since it is going to be a useless piece of furniture once she is potty trained.

We got an awesome deal on this set!
We have the same crib. I got the changing table on craigslist for $40 and painted to match. We use our changing table ALL the time. Every time we change her diaper or clothing at home, we use it. I just wasn't a fan of hurting my back bending over to change her on the floor, or risk an 'accident' on our sofa or beds. Plus, everything is right there handy, and it's easy to dress her on it as well.
We already had a dresser to use in his room, so we just got a changing pad and put it on top. I have a little diaper caddy next to it that holds everything. I could also use the dresser drawers for storage.

I can't imagine not having a changing table or dresser with contour pad on it (same thing in my mind). Really. I hate it when we go out of town and I have to change on the floor or the couch or the bed -- all tend to be pains in the arse...well, really pains in the back.
We spent $150 on a traditional changing table -- bought as is at Burlington. Really, one of the best "baby gear" things we bought. Since we had a 2nd child, its been in use non-stop for 4.5 years and counting now, so really not bad for $150.
We didn't get a changing table. We got a combo dresser and put a changing pad on top. It's bit taller than a normal dresser, so I don't have to stoop at all when I change DD. I use the dresser for storage right now and hang all her clothes in the closet. I also have a shelf in the closet with baskets for things like socks, etc. We didn't have room in the nursery for a separate changing table, and as babies get older, it becomes less useful. I still change DD on the changing pad on the dresser because she lets me. She fights me more if I try to do it on the floor or somewhere else, but I don't think this is the norm. I guess she's just used to it. But if I mostly changed her on the floor at this point, a changing table would feel like a complete waste of money.
Nope. We just change her on the bed in her room. We put these underneath her. It really depends on how much you can/want to spend and if you have room for one. We don't have the room and we really couldn't/didn't want to spend the money on one either.
I'm sorry, but a changing table was a must for me. Every time I have to use a bed/floor/couch/hatchback in the car/dresser with a pad on top it hurts my back. I couldn't imagine bending over 12x a day to change a newborn diaper, esp with the back problems I had when DD was that young.
Even though DD is out of diapers it's still very handy. It has tons of storage, and is a good surface for folding her clothes, etc. It also converts to a desk, which is handy-dandy.

this. I found that changing him on the floor or a bed was not good...I love that we have 2 changing tables--the dresser one in his room and one downstairs.

Re: Changing Tables...
We got 3 pieces from JCPenney. I didn't want a traditional changing table because it would be useless once she out grew it.

We got a dresser & have the changing pad on that. I really wanted some furniture that LO would use for a long time.
Our friends have a traditional changing table, but the top comes off to transform into a bookcase later on, which is very nice. https://www.landofnod.com/family.aspx?c=361&f=5052
