We did the one arm swaddle for a week then switched to a sleep sack. DS did not sleep well in the sleep sack at all so after a week of sleep sacking it we decided just to let him sleep in footed PJ's and sleepy time is so much better now!
She just grew out of it. I swaddled her until she let me know it was ok. She has been sleeping swaddless for a week now.
At three months, I started only 1/2 swaddling her arms only. At around 4.5 months she kept escaping. She was getting frustrated when she escaped, so we let her nap without it. Finally, we stopped at night.
we went cold turkey... two terrible nights then he got used to it.
So - you just put him down one night w/o swaddling him and then what? Did he sleep at all? Did you have to keep going back in and soothing him/picking him up?
I tried for 30 mins today and that's all I could stand!
I don't swaddle during naps anymore, but still do at bedtime... The past 2 nights DS has escaped from the swaddle and gets mad so I'm going to start only putting one arm in tonight and do that for a few days, then try to take both arms out for a few days then switch to a sleep sack... we'll see how it goes haha!

LO STTN before removing swaddle and I had no intentions of breaking the swaddle when I did but the AC broke and it was up to 83 degrees inside so I figured she would either be hot and miserable in the swaddle and therefore awake or she could be awake and miserable without the swaddle but it was likely that she would be willing to sleep in my arms for the night.
So I put her in the crib with no swaddle and she started sleeping an extra hour every night. And we haven't gone back to the swaddle once.
We went to the one-arm swaddle about a month ago, and completely unswaddled this past weekend. It was a non-event. We realized we wanted him swaddled more than he needed it because we were afraid to mess with his sleep routine that was going so well.
DS2 is still swaddled, but with DS1, he kept breaking his arms out, so we just wrapped his belly for awhile and then switched him to Halo SleepSacks. The transition went really well for him, and he slept in the sleepsacks for a long time..I slept better knowing he stayed warm because he couldn't kick the blanket off and was safe because the blanket couldn't end up over his face.
Re: If you "de-swaddled" how did you do it?

Your LO is still young. You have time.

Cold turkey for us.
