So, pre-pregnancy our house was set to 74 at night during the summer. Since December, that has dropped to about 70. Hubs sleeps with a blanket after WW3 broke out when he tried to turn it up one night.
Is anyone else turning down the air in order to get a good night's sleep?
I am terrified to see what our electric bill will be this summer as I am close to wanting to turn it down to 69 and it is not even June yet...
Re: Let's talk Thermostats...
That does sound amazing!
Wow - y'all keep it cold! Last summer, ours was set to 80. We also have ceiling fans in every room that are always running 24/7. (Did I mention I live in Florida? This surprises me even). I will say, our house is well insulated so it never feels as hot as the thermostat says it is.
This summer, it's been holding steady at 78 - and sometimes if we're doing a lot of housework, we'll turn it down to 76, but it always goes back up to 78 at night. I should turn it up to 80 during the day while we're not home, but I always forget.
I am starting to be hotter at night, and the other night I made DH turn it down to 77. But, I'm really holding out on keeping the thermostat up because utilities are expensive enough, and I don't want a $300 electric bill!
Typically we dont really run ours during the day.. If we do its because we were out in the heat and its on for like 10 min just to cool us off.
But at night that loverly (yes I said loverly, yes I know its not a word...no,I dont care =])machine is running 65-68... Because I feel like I am dieing in bed. It is only bad at night, But I end up waking up all gross and sweaty and half the time I am up before I want to be because I just got to hot!
Half luckily... DH has been on the couch for like a month now due to a neck problem.. So I have his side to roll over to for that oh so amazing cool feeling. lol
I am sending this entire thread to Hubs to read! I would say that we fight about the house temperature more than anything else lately! Ha!
He does not understand why I'm so hot. We have always keep the thermostat on 85 during the day and then bump it down to 80 at night. We live in TX, so it is a reprieve from the heat, but for the last week I've been feeling like our bedroom is a sauna. Last night I even had him bring the guestroom bed downstairs so we could sleep downstairs, instead (thinking it may be cooler). Wrong. I am still super hot!

I turn mine down before I go to bed and I still woke up sweating last night/this morning.
day: 78
night: 76
but our bedroom stays warmer than the rest of the house (it's huge and only has 2 small vents) so I have been seriously considering a window unit for in there to add to the central A/C so I don't have to keep the downstairs frigid to sleep.
We don't have/need central a/c in upstate NY so no battles yet. It's been unseasonably hot the past few days, but the nights are reasonable. We've been getting by with a fan in the window so far, which feels like heaven. Luckily DH is a polar bear and usually freezes me out completely, so it will be interesting to see who wants the a/c first this yer.
It's still pretty cool out where I live (Seattle area), so we don't have our A/C on yet. We keep our bedroom window open at night and leave the heat off though, so it's usually 65ish in our bedroom.
I like to tell my H that he must be part Eskimo, he likes the house super cold. We keep the bedroom window open year round (even when it's freezing out) and we don't turn the heat on at night. It isn't normally humid and doesn't get too hot here thankfully.
