For the ladies that already have had their LO, what kind of birth control are you using these days?
I like not having to think about it (i.e. not having to remember to take
a pill every day) - I've used the implant (Implanon) in the past and
liked the convenience
but had weight gain side effects. I'm leaning toward an IUD - if you
have one I'd love to hear your thoughts!.
Re: clicky poll: post-childbirth birth control
After discussing this with my doctor, she also recommended Mirena to me. I was on the pill for 16 years with no real ill-effects, but I'm not that keen on going back on it (I'm terrible about remembering it, and like the idea of being able to get pregnant again right way possibly). She thought that Mirena would be the best option for me for a few years until we want to conceive again....then probably the perma-solution!
Even though I don't have a LO yet, I plan on going back to the TCOYF & just charting. That does make me a little nervous though just b/c I have only used it while trying to get preg! I just would prefer not to get on hormones again after being on the pill for so long before.
me too I think, although it will be really hard because I was so irregular before (which is why I was on BCPs for so long) plus I plan to BF beyond one year. I would like to start back up with traditional chinese medicine to help with my reproductive health in general but will skip the herbs b/c of BFing and again, not sure how much it will help b/c of BFing - it will be interesting to see when/if I get a period. My MW did recommend Mirena but I'm not sure I want any amount of hormones in my body because of my annovulation issues even though it is not suppose to suppress ovulation.
me too...i'd like to just chart, but being so irregular is really annoying! that was the best thing about BCPs...we'll see, i guess
This is me! I am convinced that being on BCP (i.e., synthetic hormones) exacerbated my chronic eczema for over 8 years. I was miserable and am doing so much better now that I'm off them. I don't think I'll ever go back on them. We used the FAM (and "raincoats"
) while TTA for the 3 months prior to TTC. I don't think I could say my cycles were irregular prior to BCP, but my cycle lengths definitely varied (sometimes 20-something days, sometimes 40+ days) and strangely enough, after stopping BCP, my cycles ended up being 28-31 days.
The only problem is that I'm not sure if I'll be able to temp regularly/accurately with a LO and all the sleep-deprivation/interruption I'm anticipating.
I clicked raincoats... but really I should say we're practicing abstinence.
I have absolutely no sex drive and I have a hard time stopping my mind when we do actually have sex...

This. I have my 6-week check up tomorrow and will be interested in what the doctor recommends. I had no problems with the pill until trying to get pregnant. It's so convenient, but I'm hesitant to put that back in my system since we'll eventually want to TTC again. Thinking about looking into a diaphragm, but we'll see.
I'd be in awe of anyone that could, really! I don't think temping would work for me at all right now, especially since I seldom get the 3 hours of uninterrupted sleep you need to get an accurate temp.
I kinda wanted to avoid hormones as well, but I don't see any way around it (for me personally).
I could get a copper IUD but they're not covered by health care here so they're $$$ whereas the hormone one is for some reason and is therefore cheap.
Although I am a good candidate, I am too scared to rely upon LAM, so we're using condoms for now. J didn't want me back on the pill since we plan to TTC#2 relatively soon (probably starting this time next year) and it can also mess with milk supply.
I haven't had a PP cycle yet, so who knows if I am even ovulating although I had tons of EWCM last week. So I have no idea, but don't want to chance it. We definitely don't want 2 under 2! I was reading on the AP board (they had a poll) that some women who EBF can go a year or more withour a PP cycle (especially if their LO nurses at night). So I'll be curious to see when mine comes back...hopefully in time to start TTC#2 otherwise I'll have to considering weaning rather than letting Libby self-wean.
