if you've had your first u/s

Just wondering, how far along were you and did you see the heartbeat yet?

Mine is this Thursday at 5w6d and I'm not sure if that may be too early to see it. I think I remember someone posing earlier this week that saw it earlier than that.

I guess my real question is, should it definitely be there? Is it ok if it's not?

At 5w6d you may or may not see it. I think the heartbeat usually shows up by 6 and 1/2 weeks.

To answer your other question, I just had my u/s today and we saw the heartbeat at 7 weeks.

Developmentally heartbeat's been established about 5 weeks or so, I think. But it doesn't always resolve itself so easily on an u/s.

If they find a hb, take joy in that, but don't freak if you don't see hb just at that point. Some women see their first hb at 8 weeks even with prior u/s. It's pretty early still, sometimes it's just hard to resolve that early.

to echo other folks 5 weeks is pretty early to find a heartbeat. so DONT be stressed AT ALL if there's nothing to hear.. my OB prefers to wait til week 6 to be more likely to get a view. since we're going to be camping at precicely the 6 week mark I'm going a few days later when we get back, closer to 7. I had the option to go earlier but I was afraid that if I didnt see it early I'd be a complete basket case on our vacation, what a terrible way to be camping.. so I'm waiting til we get back.

When I went in for u/s at 5wks and 3 days all you could see was the sac, not the baby. If you don't see the baby, don't worry. It is probably too early.

My RE isn't even having me come in until ~7w to do an u/s because she wants to make sure the hb is visible.

I had my first u/s this past Friday at 5w6d and we saw the little heartbeat. The doctor did not give a bpm, but we saw it!

That early, I wouldn't expect to see anything but a sac. My first u/s picture was pretty disapointing--just a blob. A miracle of a blob (and I was far enough for a h/b) and it was AMAZING, but it was not a great picture. Even a week later at 7 weeks the pic was much better--a blob with lumps of a head, tail, and possible arm buds.

had first at 5w3d and saw yolk sac but no fetal pole yet and no heartbeat yet. Have to wait til June 1 to see if this is a viable pregnancy!!

You have had some super great betas, so I bet you will see something going on in there! We saw ours at 5w5d, but didnt give us a rate. Today at 6w4d we got the heart rate. I am so excited for you!

My first ultrasound I was 5wd6 and saw the yolk sack, baby and heartbeat. I was measuring 6w1d. HTH!

This is why I amde my ob wait until I was at least 6 wks 3 days to do the ultrasound. They wanted to do it at 5 wks 5 days due to some cramping I was having to rule out ectopic. I KNEW if I didn't see a hb I would FREAK out. SO I had them wait and so far so good.

My first u/s was 5w4d and all we saw ws a gestational sac and a yolk sac. At 6w4d we saw the baby and a HB. Tomorrow, at 7w4d, I hope we can make out the head and extremities somewhat.

With DD, we saw a HB at 5w5d, but it was under 100 (perfectly normal for that early on) and the sonographer said that she normally doesn't see HBs that early. You may or may not see it
