I had a scheduled induction on May 17th at 39wks 2 days being high risk w/high blood pressure & gestational diabetes. I went in at 9am and they started an IV w/antibiotics for Group B Strep which I had tested positive for. That needed to take 4 hours in order to work (unlike w/Kaitlyn who came so quickly that she had to receive the antibiotics after delivery). At 12:30 my OB broke my water, and by 1:30 nothing had happened, & I was still dilated at 2 (which I had been at the previous Thurs.). Still around 4 or 5pm I was only dilated at 2-3, & we were just hoping to get to 4 so that things would hopefully pick up. I had chosen not to get an epidural, but only some meds through the IV, since I did that w/Kaitlyn & they worked fine. The contractions were steady, just nothing else. Well, that?s when things turned. My contractions were really intense & the pain so much more worse this time. It was after 6pm & Dave noticed that when I had a contraction, the baby?s heart rate went really low, so they worried about the cord being around his neck. Around 6:15 I was dilated to 5, but the pain was too much so I decided I wanted an epidural. The nurse would get me to lie on different sides with each contraction to get the baby?s heart rate up. While I was on my left side I had a contraction & felt the urge to push & that sent everyone into hurry up mode. I literally went from being dilated at 5 to fully dilated & ready to push in just 10-15 minutes! I only pushed for 10 minutes & Joshua was born at 6:45pm. Thankfully he was fine & nothing was wrong during delivery. I did have an episiotomy, which was good since he actually was born as a Compound Compression, which is a rare type of delivery. Basically one of his hands also came out w/his head, so the extra space was needed to push not only his head, but one of his hands out. Luckily he was only 6 lbs 11oz, so that smaller size didn?t hurt me as much as if he would have been bigger. They were ready for an emergency c-section if needed, but luckily that was not needed. I also never rec?d the epidural as I needed blood drawn to make sure I could receive it due to the high blood pressure & he arrived during that time we waited for the test results. We are just happy we are both fine & now adjusting to life at home as a family of 4!<br>
