Ok, so I know we are supposed to avoid processed meats and cheeses bc of the risk of bacteria, unless we heat it up. I have let go of my love for cold turkey sandwiches [sigh] but some of my mom-to-be friends say they still eat lunch meat. I don't mind ditching it for a while, but I keep having work lunch functions and they are bringing boxed lunches with cold cut sandwiches as the only options. I haven't told work yet, so I definitely don't want to make a big deal of it, plus I secretly really want to eat that turkey sandwich! Anyone else saying screw it to the lunch meat rule?
Re: Your opinion on cold lunch meat, please :-)
My OB said there is no reason to avoid it if it comes from a reputable place or you buy it at the store and bring it home. I've found she's a little more relaxed than most, though . . .
To answer your question, I eat it when I want.
To me, it's not worth the risk. Even if it's a miniscule risk, I cannot imagine a time when I would need a cold cut sandwich so badly that I would even risk a .0000001% chance of hurting my baby.
Deli meat is really bad for you anyway, (unless you specifically seek out the nitrate free kind) and contributes to stomach and pancreatic cancer.
It's not like we're asked to cut out something that we need to eat everyday that is good for you. I understand that it's probably fine but, why risk it?
I agree. My Dr. said sushi was fine in moderation. The few fish she said to avoid arent commonly used in most rolls anyways.
I agree with this. I know there are lots of women who don't buy into the long list of "don'ts" that go along with pregnancy, but I am a "better safe than sorry" type of girl.
I asked my DR about this and he said there is a tiny chance it can cause listeria or something, I forget the word. He also said they do not talk to patients about this as they have never had a problem in 35 years so they dont worry about it. I dont worry about it and did not with first pregnancy, daughter is fine and so was I. I think it is a bunch of stuff that gets stirred up from somewhere. Where did you hear you are not supposed to eat lunch meat, a DR or 1st tri board? Think about where you heard it and decide from there

My gag reflex went into overdrive at the thought of nuking deli cheese. Gross.
I'm eating 2 slices of boar's head cheddar with pretzels right now. So, yeah. lol.
My OB said to get the packaged kind because it isnt in and our of refridgeration all day. I was surprised because I didn't know why you weren't supposed to eat it and I figured the deli meat was more fresh but it is actually the wrong choice.
I haven't been packing my usual lunch of ham and cheese everyday but I have had Jimmy John's twice.
