back pain and pre term labor question

I have to preface this by saying I'm 22 weeks today and this week is when my sister lost her baby, so I'm just really paranoid.

Saying that, I've been having some back pain.  It's off and on, worse when I'm laying down.  I had back pain with Marion and I have a small birth defect in my back and carrying her just made that worse.  This time though, it's on the opposite side of my back.

There are no contraction feelings, no discharge, nothing else, but this pain that comes and goes (and isn't timeable.)

I know the answer is to call my doc, but does this sound like something to worry about to any of yall?

    I would call just to be sure...does it help to squat down (hold the back of a chair and squat) or take Tylenol?  When I've had severe cramping/back pain they ask me to try those first and see if I get relief from them.

    I don't know the answer, but I can imagine this is a tough week for you to get through. I'm sure everything is fine, although Dr. Z would surely understand if you called.

    Wow what a week! Would a heating pad help? That's all I've used on the bit of back pain that I had a few weeks ago. I know laying down with it might not be the most comfortable thing at first but maybe after a bit?

    Take two tylenol and if the pain doesn't go away...call the doctor.  Most likely...it's the positioning of the baby.  I had back pain starting at 26 weeks (where I was buying lumbar support pillows for my back at work because it hurt so bad sitting up).  Anyhow...I had this pain up until the time that I was induced and had back labor during my induction.  (Never had this with #1).  It was due to the positioning of the baby and was very uncomfortable, but two tylenol PM's helped me sleep at night.

    Lisa, was your doc able to feel for the baby and say, oh yes, that's what's causing it?

    no...she didn't do that at all, she just said that it was most likely it, which ended up true in my case, because the pain just intensified when I was deliverying (even with an epi) and after having the baby, I had really bad lower back pain for a week.  But it completely went away after that.

    I think it is just her position.  I've had some sciatic pain as well off and on and I'm pretty sure she's head down now (she wasn't at 20 weeks.)  So I think that's what is causing it.  I get another u/s at 24 weeks, so we'll be able to see if she's head down and how far down she is.

    I had a  lot of ultrasounds and she was always head down but high...wonder if the head down is what causes the pressure on the back.
