NBR: Anyone ever restore terrazo???

We found a house! YAY!

Our closing is June 10th & I am BEYOND excited. There is a ton of work to be done before we move in! The house is 1962 original and we plan on remodeling/updating (kitchen, floors, windows), but also want to keep some it's character.

Under carpet & tile is terrazo- I would LOVE to restore it, however I've heard it's hard to find a reputable company that does this well.

Any recommendations???

  • No recs, but wanted to wish you congratulations! How exciting, plus you'll have the summer off to focus on the house, I assume.  We too had terrazo, but opted to lay tile instead.  But it is gorgeous when restored, so good luck!

If the terrazo idea doesn't work out (too expensive) then we are going tile as well! LOL!

  • We restored our terrazo which was covered by carpet and/or linoleum tile (what a mess!).  I used two companies, and hated the first and loved the second.  I will try to dig up the name of the company when I get home tonight.  The owner's name was Chris and I think the company was AAA resotration or something like that.  I think I found him on the BBB site.

I love the restoration and am very glad we did it!

  • No recs but congratulations!!!!:)

  • Congrats!!!!  I think Tania (taxbride) may have experience with this.  Good luck!
  • We did this at my parents house....and my parents did it themselves. There was glue and stuff to scrape up from the carpet and linolium and then I think all they had to do was buff it and then clean it or vice versa. My parents terrazo was in great shape, tho, so I am not sure what you need in addition to the above. I can ask them if anyone helped. I don't remember anyone but us in there scraping the crap off. LOL. They had two teenage daughters to help with labor, tho, so.... :)

    Congrats on finding a house!!!!

If you could find the name and number (of the company you liked of course) and pass it on I'd REALLY appreciate it!

  • Congrats!  No recs, but just my 2 cents.  It will probably be easier where the carpet is.  Removing the tile may damage the terrazo, so definitely go with a reputable company to do both the tile removal and the restoration.

We had terrazo floors under the tile, but we knew we were going to retile so it was not a big deal if the terrazo was damaged in the process.

  • no recs, but CONGRATS! where are you moving?
