Weird thought my crazy pregnant brain just had...

Do all animals have painful childbirth, or just us lucky humans? I cannot imagine that delivering a giraffe or a colt (the seem so bony and sharp!) would be comfortable, but I have no idea if it's easy or not for them.

Any zoologists out there know?

Or animals likes dogs or cats that deliver many, many babies at once.

    That must be exhausting.

  • I pretty sure they have contractions and pain just like us.  Pretty much the same biology in mammals.  They just can't scream like us.
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

When DH told his boss we were expecting the first time (mc), he told my husband to look into the Bradley Method of child birth. He told DH it is how farm animals give birth. So I said, "Your boss thinks I am a cow?" LOL! This is how the Duggars give birth and a bit too natural for me. No offense to those who are feel strongly about this- one of the great things about America is we all make our own choices. But... I am in the camp that God blesses us with the option of an epidural for a reason!!!

I know! We think it's hard having twins or triplets, what about a litter of 10 puppies! Scary!

  • I don't know about larger animals, but my BFF fosters cats and witnessed a litter being born.  That momma cat was definitely in pain, screaming while she gave birth.  I'm not sure if that's reassuring or not...
  • Megin, LMAO, you really DO have some random pregnancy brain thoughts!!! LOL.

Yeh I've seen cats have babies, they scream.  Idk about other mammals though.  My pregnant brain just went "what about elephants?" they're pregnant for 2 years or something. Indifferent

  • beign a country gal I've been there to catch many a calt colt pup kitten .. heck you name it if it's on a farm and crawls outta it's momma I've probably been there to birth it LOL

it's odd other mamals have discomfort for sure, but not pain really. see you have to remember most animals are designed to breed unless man messed is up (see dogs that cant give birth, though we're a bit closer to show dogs in that our body's primary function is not reproduction) so a horse for example will get real calm, pace, lay down, get up.. be a bit figgity, but they breath, they groan just a little.. but unless the colt is breech they dont scream (and anyone who's ever had a horse break a leg or get a nasty wound can say they deffinitely scream in pain!!!) dogs are about the same, a litte wimper but not the screeching of injury. cows.. heck most cows dont look like they've even noticed!! they just kinda stop and look back like.. oh I dropped something! see humans arent really designed primarily for breeding, your hips are made for walking and running even climbing.. but most animals have two functions, to breed and to be food for something else.. (by the way I am a sure huge animal lover, that's not said in heartlessness i think my beagle is as much a person as I am sometimes lol but the natural fact still stands)

animals are also very tuned into their bodies.. they dont have tv or email or even a good book to distract them. And noone tells them "OH MAN THIS IS GONNA HURT!!!" they dont erad up on the subject and watch videos for months, they just pay attention to themselves. so they're able to maintain awareness and focus on breathing and physical responce (like the bradley method and other natural birthing classes would teach) animals also dont bare down unless there's a problem.. they let the contractions push the baby out.. women can do this too in a smooth birth a doctor can have a woman relax and the baby will "birth itself" we're also the only animals that get other people in on the game. infact many animals will stop labor if someone tries to assist them or if another animal comes too close for comfort.

and afterward the animals arent stressed out like we are, they get their breath, get up, check out their baby and kinda get on with life.. cause in the bushes of the wild you cant be screaming a fit or something will come eat you while you're birthing, and you cant languish and take a rest cause something will eat your baby..?

It makes total sence. God didnt design birth to be a painful thing. the pain was a curse on Eve and her decendants as punishment for sin. It was on Eve, not Eve's pets :)

I've been spending alot of time with the four legged gals lately just trying to remind myself that it's all natural.. that God made my body able to do this and all i gotta do is breath and give my body the space.?

  • I learned in a biology class that one reason child birth is so difficult is that our brains/skulls have evolved to become bigger faster than our hips have evolved to become wider.

Not to mention human hips will probably never evolve to be wider because of pop culture, I guess we'll just get stupider or all be born by cesarean.

  • OMG, this post has me laughing!!!!  I never thought of that!!
