facebook

it's hard to keep up man. i'm finding myself chking my FB a lot during the day (causing my phone bill to rise) and for what? it's all an addiction.

i don't need to keep up with 120 friends and family when if they want to find out about us all they would do is call or text.

anyways i'm pissed at myself (after i saw the phone bill) so i deleted my account. screw that, i'm doing what mari did and letting go.

besides with two kids on the way i can't see myself actually setting time aside for that.

does anyone else feel the same way?

Re: facebook

  • LOL Good for you!  I rarely look at it on the computer, only on the phone, but I have a media plan, so included.  I think I may eventually move in the direction you did, but haven't taken the plunge... maybe when my butterballs are here.

  • I love Facebook because all of my family lives out of the country, and it's the easiest thing for me to upload pictures for them to see and vice versa. I am pretty addicted... and will gladly pay the extra $25 bucks a month to have unlimited internet access on my phone.

oh and I have two kids, there is plenty of time during the day... like everything else, it's all abotu time management. I unfortunately don't have time to upkeep with a blog because it requires much much more time but facebook, two minutes a day and my family knows what we are up to!

i'm so pissed off at myself. i spend some of my free time on that crap when i could be resting or enjoying some "me" time.

  • I don't make it like a job. LOL. I still enjoy it. I have a lot of friends who live out of town and this has helped me communicate with them more than I would if I was not on it. So I am on the opposite side that I think it makes life with baby - easier. I can continue to foster all different relationships, keep in touch and in the loop, and keep my little network of people informed. I don't see it as a "have" to.

yea i had to cut my plan b/c of i'm not working...which made my addiction never go away. after i saw the bill you better believe FB went out the window. i love my blog and think its easier to keep up through there...for whoever follows me. i just got tired of the random checking FB 20 times a day to see what everyone is upto.

i get all of you though, you guys have out of town families and stuff. i don't, my friends and family know how to reach me so for me it was just an extra thing on my daily to-do list.

  • btw i was watching "he's just not that into you" again this wknd and i agree with drew barrymore's line of: "what happened to the world of communicating? where we had 1 phone line and 1 answering machine and that person left you a message or they didnt...now if ppl want to know about my new haircut all i have to do is update my myspace page" lmao!
imageimageBaby Birthday Ticker Ticker Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • I'm one of the few people that don't have a myspace, facebook, etc. account and I even got rid of my blog after I had the baby. It's too time consuming to keep up with it all and I refuse to spend time when I am at home on this; I feel like I am busy enough at home spending as much time as I can with the baby, staying on top of the house and everything else that I don't want to waste my time on that.  That being said I do use a photo-sharing site to save time on distributing pictures but that's it.

I really go on the nest when I'm at work since I don't take breaks so I try to get on here when I can....so yes, I do feel the same way you do.

  • I still love facebook. It's the easiest way to stay in touch with family and friends who live far away, and to stay in loop with local friends on what is going on that day.  I don't use it on my phone at all, just on my laptop while Zoe is playing. For me, facebook time IS my "me" time, i enjoy it :-)
  • I will never give up FB, blogging, Twitter, or any of my favorite things ;) I am too much of a social media nut. I thrive on it!!!

Plus my iPhone comes with a data plan so it has zero effect on my phone bill.

I will miss seeing your FB updates Evelyn!!! Guess I will have to just try to keep in touch with you better now :)

  • I love FB too and would not give it up.  I also think it's so much easier to keep up with friends by just reading their updates, especially the out of town ones who I don't see as often.  And I love that I've found friends from elementary school that I haven't talked to in a long time.

I have a iphone also so the data plan is included and at home I do pretty much stay logged in when I'm home on the laptop and will come and sit down or glance over every once in a while when alexis is playing or watching tv.

  • I'll die without FB!!  I love that I can update my friends and family with some of the wacky things that go on in my life.  My phone includes the data plan so I get on using my phone.  It's usually when I'm nursing Matthew or at work.

I'll miss you on FB.  I loooove all the pictures of you guys on there!

  • Haha!

I am home from work today with a sick Nadia and I am LOLing at this post!

FB really was like a job for me- I was checking it WAAAAY to much! I love not having the extra task HOWEVER I will say that I feel out of the loop with my social life without it. People just don't communicate the regular way anymore.

    Enjoy your extra time!

    Mari ;-)

i know i'll feel like that too eventually - and maybe in the future when i do get some free time again i'll jump back on the bandwagon.

  • I was checking it way too much, too.  I still do, I think, although I have definitely cut back.  I have also pretty much cut out posting status updates every day.  It is still useful for me a little bit but I try to check it once a day and that's it.  I have connected with old friends and with cousins that I hardly ever see, but I don't use it to post photos of my kids so it's not useful in that way.  I keep in touch with my out of town family by phone and by skype instead.

Same here.  I only access it on my computer and my time is limited with that because Nicholas and Adrianna barely give me 5 minutes to myself all day long.  At the risk of sounding like an old fart, I am just not that into the latest technologies when it comes to phones.  I strictly use my cell for texting and calls only.  No apps or internet usage at all.

I love facebook for the reasons everyone else has stated - bc it's easier to keep in touch with OOT friends and family and even just people you don't get to see that often but still like to keep tabs on. But I totally get why you feel like it sucks up your time! I feel like it's a leash sometimes and I find myself compulsively checking in. I don't update my status every five minutes or post a hundred new pictures every week or feel compelled to comment on everybody's posts - but I do like to know what's going on with my friends and family and I know that the people who know and love me like to see what I'm up to as well :)

  • I understand how you feel.  I was much more into it when I first signed up and I was on ALL THE TIME.  But, lately, I just update it once in a while.  I don't update my status that often, but I do update the pics.  I feel that way my family and friends can stay connected even when we're too busy to call or see each other IRL.  If it wasn't for FB, I would've lost touch with a lot of people and vice/versa it's helped me get closer to other people that wouldn't normally call or visit often.
  • I dunno...I've never seen it as a job or a chore or something I have to dedicate time to. I love facebook...I love keeping in touch with old friends that I wouldn't have access to if it weren't for fb, I love sharing pictures and updates about my family and reading the same from other friends, and (let's be real) I love reading gossip. But I've never gone out of my way to be on facebook when there's something else I'd rather be doing or something else that's more productive. I do it more to kill time or when I'm multi-tasking (i.e., working but clicking over to facebook every 10 or 15 minutes for a mental break, or watching crappy reality tv while being on facebook). I have an iPhone so I have unlimited access to it as part of my phone bill. If I had to pay to access it on my phone, I probably wouldn't use it. Having access to fb on my iPhone has been a total lifesaver since Emma was born...I don't know how else I would stay awake during all her middle of the night feedings!!!!

Anyway...I can totally see why you feel the way you do, I just can't related because I've never seen facebook like that. I've never felt pressured or obligated to spend time on it unless I really want to be on it. I'll miss your updates and pics of Mady!!!!

  • I hear you - I spend way too much time on Facebook - but I love it!  I too have family living all over - NJ, MI, PR, HI, and NY so it makes it easy to stay in touch.  Otherwise, I probably would not be able to.  FB has actually reunited a lot of my family members as well as old school friends.  I love hearing updates and sharing pictures.  I don't have an I-Phone so can't check FB when at work - so I get my daily fix at the end of the day when the kids are  sound asleep.  I too will miss your FB updates on Mady..

i rec'd two personal emails today from two old high school friends saying that they are following my pg and really enjoyed staying in contact with me. my sister also called me yesterday and she said that is the only way she gets to "see mady everyday".

dh told me the same thing that he will delete my app on my phone and block the internet if i want (which i do want). i think i'll reactivate it but only use it seldom at night. it feels so two faced to reactivate it after being so pissed off at myself yesterday but i guess this is the only way to stay in contact with everyone now a days.

  • I will miss you in FB land!!!! Just remember that your account never gets "deleted"..you just log in again and it gets reactivated...and you don;t loose anything that was on your page or profile from before :)

     P.S. Mari..hope Nadia feels better :)

  • I have a Facebook account, but really only look at it once or twice a month.  No internet on my phone and I can't look at it at work, so only when I get something exciting that I see from my e-mail, I'll go on and check it.  It's really not a priority for me, but I don't feel the need to delete it just b/c I don't check it often.
