I read this morning that Congress is pushing to completely ban drop side cribs. I have never cared for the style, or thought that the drop side would really be convenient, anyways. If banning the cribs saves lives, I am all for it! I was just curious what others' thoughts on this was?
Re: Possible Ban on Drop side Cribs...WDYT?
We have a Jenny Lind-style drop side. Our crib was not recalled, but DH secured the dropside.
I love my crib. I think it is beautiful, but if it is dangerous then it is dangerous.
My non-drop side crib was recalled, we thought it was sturdy and safe. Unfortunately sometimes things aren't safe. I don't think a ban would be effective, besides short, what about handicapped parents ? I think stricter requirements and fines for those who make unsafe equipment.
I feel that dropsides can be risky.?
But I am of the opinion that everything is risky and can have problems. (Not saying it is okay, but it is life). I feel that banning dropsides would not eliminate cribs from being dangerous.
I am a little on the fence. I see both sides. ?
I agree that their should be new requirements that make drop side cribs safer. I have a friend that is 5' tall and she really does need a drop side crib or she wouldn't be able to get her baby out of the crib.
I love my drop side. I honestly don't use it much, but I have a bad back so when that acts up I have to or I can't lift DD out of the crib. The company that made has not had a recall since 2001 (for cribs) and that was for a mattress bracket nothing to do with the drop side.
I honestly don't know how I could lift my DD who doesn't stand yet without the drop side.
This.
Without my dropside (and I don't think using a stool is safe) I wouldn't be able to get DS into or out of his crib.
