? about Woman' Hospital

I will be delivering at Woman's Hospital, I was talking to my aunt about it yesterday and she was telling me when her daughter delivered there a few years ago when it was time to deliver the moms were asked to leave the room and her husband was the only that was allowed to stay. They tried to stand outside the door but were told to go wait in the waiting room. I have never heard this and if anyone else has had this happen to them or someone they know. I haven't had any friends deliver there and was wondering if it is true. I am wondering if it differs from doc to doc or its a hospital thing.

TIA!!

Re: ? about Woman' Hospital

  • I'm guessing it's becuase the daughter made it clear to the doctor that she wanted only her husband there.

  • I was thinking the same thing but didn't want to say that. I hope that's all it is.
  • If I remember correctly you could have up to 3 or 4 people in the room.  I didn't really pay attention to the number because I was set on only having DH and then once we got closer I knew I'd have a c/s so it really didn't matter.
  • Yep, her daughter probably let the nurses be the bad guys!

Without belowing her cover...tell your aunt that it's not the hospital policy but varies by doctors on who they want in the room!

    Ditto.

My MIL was SUPER offended. Offended to the point that she got in an argument with DH in the waiting room about it so he came out and said that I (we) didn't want her in the room, that we wanted to have our moment alone. After G was born she brought it up to me and I had to explain to her that it wasn't anything personal. Had my mom been here, I wouldn't have let her in the room either.

  • The nurses are good about respecting the wishes of the mom. The daughter might not admit it to her mother, but it sounds like she wanted only her husband. The nurses were doing as they were asked, most likely.
