electrolyte drinks...are they safe

I think I am seriously dehydrated and can't really find a "yes" or "no" answer on the internet.  Has your doctor mentioned anything about these?

Re: electrolyte drinks...are they safe

  • I think they're fine, other than the loads of sugar in them...

  • I have never heard of them NOT being safe.  I would, though, water them down because of what pp said- tons of sugar.

  • They're fine.  Feel better!

  • You can make homemade pedialyte to drink that's better.  Just google "pedialyte recipe" and you'll find one.  It's like 2 tsp salt, 1/4 cup sugar, and 3 cups of boiled water.  You don't have all the dyes in the drink, like the electroyte drinks you can buy, and it's cheaper.

    I hope you feel better!!

  • Check the sodium content if you're concerned about high blood pressure.  A great natural alternative is coconut water--give you great electrolytes to combat dehydration, tastes good (especially the kind with pineapple or mango juice added), and it has LOADS of potassium to boot.
