Trouble TTC

Where to start? New to board

Please don't flame - just asking honest questions...DH and I have been TTC #2 for about a year. I would like to at least talk to someone to get an opinion on what is going on, but I am not sure where to start? We got lucky on Cycle #2 for DS, so this is new for me. Did you have an initial OB appointment and then move to a RE? or Did you go directly to an RE? I think I can go directly to a specialist with my insurance but do you need an RE referral? Any advice? TIA

  • I didn't need a referral.  Call your insurance to make sure, then call up an RE that you'd like to go to and ask them their policy. :)  GL!

  • My OB recommended 2 RE's and after research, we made our decision on the best fit for us. I agree with sulfa... check w/ your ins. 1st though. Good luck and we are TTC #2 as well. Have you checked out secondary IF at all? Great board as well.
  • My obgyn did refer me but it wasn't needed for insurance.  Like kdodge said they don't really pay for much though so that is probably why it didn't matter.

  • When DW and I decided we wanted to TTC I made an apt with my OB and talked to her. She sent the referral over to the RE clinic.

  • I went to my obgyn when we had been ttc with no luck after like 10 months.  She ordered some tests, but brushed off our concerns, said we were young and to keep trying.  We got pregnant the first time fairly easily (within 6 months), so I couldn't help but think something was wrong with one of us.  I didn't get a referral from her for the RE, I just made an appt.  I'm so glad I did, because the RE saw that I had low progesterone, something my obgyn didn't pick up on, or she just didn't know what to look for in the test results.  Obgyn's are not fertility specialists, so they are not as qualified and knowledable as RE's.  I highly recommend going to an RE!
