So, I found out today that my beta numbers went from 12 to 18, which indicates a chemical pregnancy. I am to stop all medication tonight and move forward.
If you had a similar situation, where you successful afterwards?
What causes a chemical pregnancy?
Are they common?
Did you have additional testing after to rule out other possibilities?
If so, what were the additional tests?
I am meeting with the RE in a couple of days and want to come up with some questions to ask, and currently I am at a loss.
This was IVF #2, and we put back 2 great embryos (all we had) on day 3, both 8 cells. I got a positive test with FRER, on 10pt3dt with my HCG taken the nest day registering 12 on Friday and today at 18.
If you were successful after, did you do anything differently the next round? Any additional advice would be great.
Thanks ladies
Re: If you had a chemical pregnancy with IVF, please come in.
i am so sorry about your chemical pregnancy sweetie
they are so unfair and SO painful to go through.
i did 2 IVFs and didn't have a c/p with either one (a BFN and then michael and daphne) but i did have 3 c/ps before we did IVF. 2 were on unmed cycles and one was on an injectable IUI cycle.
If you had a similar situation, where you successful afterwards? yes.
What causes a chemical pregnancy? there are many potential causes, it's really hard to say what causes them. for me, i believe it was either poor quality embryos, my clotting mutations (factor II prothrombin and MTHFR a), or a combination thereof.
Are they common? i think they could be more common than we know, since most "normal" people don't test early enough to catch them. i think to have one or two is probably fairly "normal".
Did you have additional testing after to rule out other possibilities? yes, after my 3rd i had a recurrent pgcy loss panel (RPL panel) through which we discovered my clotting disorders. after they were discovered i used lovenox and baby aspirin as part of my protocol and throughout my pregnancy.
GL at your appt - i really am so sorry you are going through this.

I had a chemical pregnancy after IVF transfer #3. It was an FET of 3 blastocysts. Our 4th transfer (which was fresh) was a BFN and we had success on IVF transfer #5 (FET). I am pregnant with twins. My RE said that there are a number of reasons for chemical pregnancies. One of which could be an implantation issue. Reality is that it is hard to truly identify why a cp might have happened. My RE tested me for blood clotting disorders and the tests came back negative. However, for IVF transfer 5 he decided to put me on blood thinners anyway. Also, I started weekly acupuncture. So either one of those or neither could have been the winning combo. IVF is so hard because most of the time you really never know why things dont go as planned.
Best of luck to you! I hope you have success soon.
Oh no, I am so sorry.
I had a c/p from my first full ivf cycle. The dr chalked it up to terrible egg quality but I def feel I beat the odds by leaving that clinic and seeking a specialist in DOR.
The only test my new dr did was the fragile x carrier test for which I was negative. (There is evidence there is a correlation between it and elevated fsh.) However imho with your already healthy LO it sounds like you just are dealing falling on the crummy side of the stats with this one.
As I said the next 2 IVFs I did with a diff clinic and several things were changed, most of which were unique to that IVF program. I wish you the energy to pick up and continue your journey. I am really sorry you have to deal with this.
I'm so sorry! I know how awful it is to be more excited than ever one day and crushed a couple days after. I still remember the exact moment I found out. I don't think I'll ever forget it.
For me, the only thing that got me out of bed was moving forward immediately. My husband was worried about my sanity
but I told him I NEEDED to move foward. We started our second IVF cycle about a month and a half later-and got pregnant with Bennett. We also have two frozen embryos from that cycle.
The only thing we did differently the second time around was up my dosage of Follistim to get more eggs. It seemed to work w/o giving me way too many.
Good luck and take care!
Because we're fancy like that.
I'm so sorry -
mine didn't even count as a CP, because I only got the faintest of lines at home, and by the time I had my beta (not til 13dp3dt), it was already negative. But I will say that the next cycle, my protocol was changed, I did acupuncture, and I'm now expecting twins.
GL!
