REALLY want to be a SAHM

I'm a teacher and have been off since March and will be home till August. I had NO idea I would ever want to be a SAHM but I do SO SO bad now. However, financially I need to work. I also carry our insurance. I need to make more than just a couple of hundred of bucks/month. More like around $1500/month. I would even work part time-like 3 days/week. So, does anyone have ANY suggestions as job ideas, places to look, etc where this MIGHT be possible. Again, I would do anything from work from home, work part time out of the home. I just don't want to work 5 days a week with the stress of being an educator. Yes, I don't work summers and have some other time off here and there but it's still not what I really want. ANY help/suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated! I have till August to figure it out or it's back to work full time!

    This is a very common question on here and really what it seems is that anything that is going to make good money is going to require a good amount of time and effort. Also part time jobs generally don't carry insurance so that will be the difficult part. Good luck though, there are lots of ways to save. Maybe once you really do the math and deduct daycare, and how much you can save by cutting back you can make it work.

    Good luck!  I also carried our insurance, so when I stopped working and we switched, it was a major change!  That's one of the main reasons we haven't TTC #2 yet....I don't know of anything that's a sure way to make $1500 a month.  I'm a Tastefully Simple consultant and average $100 per party.  You could watch children in your home, but it's a big committment.  I'm starting to do that part-time because I can't commit to being stuck at my house full-time.

    Do they allow job sharing in your school district?  I know some of the teachers in my mom's school district do this.

    I'm a school teacher too...did you consider subbing?  You can make your own schedule that way and take the sub jobs you want.

    What about subbing? I figured out that in my mom's district you could sub 3 days a week and bring in about $1800 after taxes.  If your district pays subs well that would be a good option.

    What about being a nanny? We are in the process of hiring a nanny and one of our top candidates would bring her baby along with her. You may not be able to get insurance coverage, but at least you wouldn't be paying for child care. Another option would be to provide care for a couple of kids in your home.

    I am a working mom lurker - had to comment on this. 

    You could be an exotic dancer, lol.  There is nothing part time that will give you the income you need right now.  I looked into all sorts of alternatives with first LO and it turns out the least stress on our family and most bang for our buck was me staying at my current job.  I even considered changing to teaching to get more time with the kiddos so I consider you one step closer to SAHM (although I know it is not).  

    If I were you I would work on how to reduce the income you need over time so that you can eventually stay at home.  We are working hard now and paying things off so that there is hope I can be home in a few years.

    I disagree that there is nothing that will give you the income you want.  I was a teacher and school counselor.

    I have worked one day a week for the last 2 years and bring in 900 a month.  Pretty good, when you don't have to pay for daycare.

    Subbing, nannying, those are all good ideas.  Keep looking for other part time jobs in the non profit world.  You could also tutor or watch 2-3 kids in your home.  My district would not let me job share.
