TTC After a Loss

NTTCALR: Would you be suspicious?

We're looking at cars and there was one on Craigslist that we're going to see tomorrow.

It's an 03 Accord and only has 72k miles. He says it's in "perfect" condition and is asking $5k. He's selling it fast since he's deploying at the end of the month.

The only thing getting me is the price. It's half of what blue book suggests.

Re: NTTCALR: Would you be suspicious?

  • I would probably be a little suspicious.  Hondas go for a lot more than that b/c they'll last forever.  Maybe pay a little extra and get a car fax on it, and have a mechanic check it out.  Sometimes if the seller wants to get rid of it quickly they may even pay half to get it checked out.

  • Oh yea, you need to take it to a mechanic for sure. If the seller has a problem with that, he's hiding something.

  • definitely check everything out on it. I hope it works out, it looks really nice and that seems like a great price.

  • I would be very suspicious and really cautious.  When I was looking for a used vehicle I went on craigslist and there were several that looked "too good to be true."  They would tell me they weren't in my area, but would ship it, because they had an uncle with a tow truck and would be coming in my area...or some BS like that.  Found out there are lots of scams like that.

I hope it works out for you...looks like a great car.  FWIW...I love my '03 Accord!!!

He has it listed in our city, so that's not an issue. He did also have a couple misspellings in his email as well. I can see the numbers on the house, but I don't know what street or area it's in to check.
