DH and I are going to go away overnight for our anniversary and have our sitter stay with the boys. I don't think an hourly rate is really the right thing but I don't want to short her either.
We usually pay her $12/hour
WDYT is a fare flat rate for overnight?
Re: What to pay overnight sitter?
So you pay her more per hour when she stays over? I always got the impression that people pay less, like a premium for waking hours and then a lower rate for sleeping hours...
How many hours will you be gone? If the both typically STTN, I'd agree that you should play less for the sleeping hours...
We are thinking Noon Saturday until noon Sunday. At the most, either would wake up 1x. Tru usually STTN but occasionally he wakes to potty and Mathis STTN 5 nights out of 7.
I am really thinking flat rate for the overnight portion, like from bedtime until wake up and then $12 for the day time hours.
Noon- 8 pm 8 hrs at $12/hr = $96
6 am- Noon 6 hrs at $12/hr= $72
8 pm- 6 am 10 hours would be $120
I think I would pay her $225 total. Does this seem fair? Consider I would also provide her meals while she is here (we always leave her a $20 when she sits at night so she can order delivery, too)
I don't know how typical this is, but our sitter in Houston would charge us full price for waking hours, then half price for sleeping hours.
When I babysat over night (like the hours you are explaining)- I'd be about $150 for 1 child- so I think $200 would be fair. Honestly I'd just ask her - I was always willing to negotiate overnight prices- & noon-noon really isn't too bad at all
This was just a post on BYM, here is the response:
"I got a ton of responses and a big range. The average was about $150. There were a few at $100, 2 that topped out at $250, then the majority were at $140, $150 & $175."
So Tasty, So Yummy
