Snugride 32 vs 35?
It seems that it would make more sense to go with the 35, but the 32s seem so popular. Does it make a huge difference either way? The design we like comes in the 35, but if its a lot heavier or more difficult to use, we could pick another design. Any thoughts are appreciated!

If you think you"ll want to carry a 35lb baby and your seat, get it. Personally, I think even the 32 is silly. Carrying that seat with baby gets very tiring very quickly. Most convertibles can be rear facing, so you are more than likely going to want to switch to that long before your baby reaches the weight and height requirements.
I asked the same question about a week ago and the ladies here gave me this wise answer. They said the higher the weight limit, the heavier the seat AND the baby. A lot of the women that responded who purchased the 32 and the 35 took their little ones out of it before they even got to the weight limit because it was just too heavy.
This pushed me in the direction of the plain snugride. (22 lb limit) They said this is the heaviest you will want to carry this thing around anyways. HTH!
Neither-go with the original model.
I have the snugride that goes up to 22lbs, and my DS is about 20, and it tough lugging that thing around. We're going to be moving him to the converitible seat this month.
This...I would just get the snugride that goes up to 22 lbs. I had my kids out of their infant seats by around 18 or 20 lbs.
Yep. Same here. We had DD in her convertible seat by 17-18lbs. and we have the Chicco Keyfit that only goes to 22lbs. It gets super heavy and tiring to lug that around everywhere! I don't know of many people who keep their LOs in the infant seat to the limit of the basic model, let alone the ones that go to 32 or 35lbs. - I weighed 35lbs. when I was in Kindergarten!
I agree with pp that you'll probably outgrow the height limit before the weight limit. However, the argument about "carrying" your kid around in the carrier seems a little silly- I don't know anyone that carries their child around in the infant carrier. Even since my son was a newborn, we either moved his carrier from the car straight into a cart/buggy, or into the stroller. The farthest I have ever carried him in it was from my car to the grocery store door because their were no carts outside!
Fwiw, my son would have outgrown a 22lb seat before 6 months- but height wise he's just getting ready to move to a new seat now at almost 8 months (and he is a very big boy for his age, 95th percentiles for everything). GL w/ your decision!
I wouldn't recommend either. I would go with the smallest one - the regular Snugride. I think it goes to 22 pounds?
Here is why:
1. You are not saving any money buying the 35. Everyone needs a convertible carseat at some point so whether you buy it when your baby is 20 pounds or 35 pounds you still need it.
2. By the time your baby is pushing 20 pounds you will NOT want to carry them in an infant seat. I promise.
3. Many babies (including my own) really don't like recline of an infant seat once they hit 6-8 months. My daughter was so happy when I transitioned her into her Britax Marathon at 8 months.
4. The traditional snugride fits in more stroller frames. It also fits in more shopping carts.
Most of my friends that bought the 32 or 35 have regretted it. NONE of them kept their babies in the seat for that long. Considering the 32 or 35 are more expensive, they essentially LOST money AND had a heavier, more cumbersome infant seat.
FWIW, I loved my Snugride. It was very nice to have the ability to snap it into a stroller and go. But once she it a certain age it was easier and she was happy in a convertible seat and an umbrella stoller.
I agree! We have the regular snugride that goes up to 22 lbs. I switched DS to a convertible at 7 months and he was no where near 22 lbs. It was just getting heavy to lug around.
I definitely think the 35 is overkill. This is my first, and we are going with the 32. For us, it makes sense, but I am 5'10" and athletic, so I don't think the 32 will be too bad for me to maneuver. If I was a more average size, I'd probably just go w/ the 22.
Also, the swing we want only uses 22 or 32, but we found a 32 that we really like that is one of the few graco's rated for side impact car accidents...oddly enough, we've only seen it at walmart!

Which convertible is that? I am just surprised because most convertibles are actually 5 pounds and up. Eg, the Britax Marathon is rated for 5-65 pounds. Most people I know only purchase the infant seat because it is a handy convenience early on. I've never heard of a convertible seat that starts at 20 pounds.

I am planning on getting the regular snug ride as well. For all the reasons as everyone else just stated but also b/c I have a small car & the bigger ones would make it too tight.
Now I just wished BRU carried more neutral patterns in the regular snugride that I like.
I don't understand why everyone says the 35 is useless since you won't want to carry a heavy baby and seat. No one says you have to take the seat out of the car everytime. What I do when my babies get too heavy for me to lug around is leave the seat in the car and just take the baby out. If my child falls asleep in the car then I take the seat out and carry it into the house and let them keep sleeping. It's nice because you don't have to wake up your kid.
You will need to buy a convertible at some point, but the infant seats are very convenient so I don't think it's bad thing to have an infant seat that lasts as long as possible. I also don't think it's an essential thing, but it can be a convenience.

True. However a lot of babies will reach the height limit on their seat long before they reach the weight limit. My DD is still under the weight limit on her Chicco (the basic 22lb. limit model) but she's at the height limit already. Why buy a more expensive and heavier car seat that your kid won't even get to use until the weight limit? The Graco 35 only goes to 32" and DD is already 30" at 1 year old but only 20.5lbs. - she'll be 32" LONG before she hits 35lbs.
Another reason is the recline. Those infant seats are VERY reclined and with my daughter, by 8 months (and she was only about 17 pounds at 8 months) she really didn't like to be leaning back that much. When I transitioned her she was sitting higher and more upright. Car rides became much more enjoyable and she loves to just look out the window and watch the world go by. She is still rear-facing (and will be for as long as possible) but the extra height and straighter seat position have been. She LOVES her carseat now.
To put weight into perspective, my son was 25 lbs at his 15 month appointment! he is in the 50th percentile. Although he would still fit in that carseat for weight limits he would not for height. most if not all babies outgrow height long before weight. We had to switch Gavin at 9 months because he outgrew the height restrictions. He is in the 90th percentile for height though so your baby will probably make it to one year before you must switch them.
To end this if you have a 35 pound baby in a car seat that is absolutely ridiculous, your child will probably be at least 2 years old or extremely obese!

Which seat did you register for? I have never heard of a convertible that starts at 20lbs.
