3rd Trimester

Birth Story

I have been meaning to share my birth story for awhile now!  I went in for an induction on the 13th at 6 am and was having mild contractions on my own that were about 3 to 6 minutes apart.  They started me on pitocin shortly after I got to the hospital.  It wasn't too bad at first, but within a couple hours I was breathing through some pretty painful contractions and was getting a pattern.  Right away I was REALLY nauseus-throwing up between contractions and I couldn't even get out of the hopital bed!  I was given something to help with the nausea, which helped for a few minutes.  By early afternoon, I was still at about a 3.5, 90%,  I stayed that way for awhile.  Early evening, I was at a "almost 4, paper thin, 2 Station with super painful back to back contractions.  I knew with my medical condition my body would have a hard time making it to ten and through pushing, so I got an epi-not what I wanted to do-but I ended up being glad I got it! My water broke at about 530. I stayed at a five for HOURS and when they checked me at around 530 am, they said that if we didn't see a different #,  that we would talk about what to do next.  At that point, I had been on oxygen all night and they kept having to stop the pitocin because LO's heart rate kept dropping-very scarey!  And, it slowed down the labor and just when I would get in a pattern, they would have to turn it off, I'd have to change positions....but LO stayed strong!  Anyway, I was at a 9!!  The nurse was shocked to see so much progress in such a short amount of time, considering the way things were going.  They started prepping for delivery.  I was unbelievably calm!  I was so relieved, and ready to do whatever it took to meet our little boy.  "Babe", I yelled to my husband, asleep on the couch, "9"  He had heard, and was really calm as well.  Within a half hour, I was at a ten, and ready to start pushing.  I started pushing at 645 and was told they probably wouldn't let me push for longer than 3 hours.  Of course, the contractions slowed down! We were waiting for them!  They turned up the pitocin.  I had to stop a couple times and was still on oxygen through the delivery bc of LO's heart rate.  Every push, I pushed like it was the one!  DH was amazing helping me and counting and telling me how great I was doing.  Finally, at 854, my beautiful little boy was born.  I didn't know if I would cry-I cried so much!  Because of the problems I had during the L&D, the high fever I had, and bc DS inhaled some meconium, I didn't get to hold him right away.  As they worked on him and he screamed the most beautiful scream, DH went over and talked to him.  DS turned toward him and his crying calmed down.  He clearly was calmed by his daddy's familiar voice.  It was amazing!  Finally they brought him to me and that was the greatest moment ever!

Thanks for letting me share third tri with you ladies!  GL to all of you through the rest of your pregnancies and L&D's!  See you on 0-3!
