s/o- why I can't live in another area (just for fun)

I was telling DH about our conversation about daydreaming of living in other areas and I came up with a list of why I can't leave NJ Stick out tongue (and I love to hear about your areas too!)

  • I do not know how to pump gas, full-service gas stations are required by law and are THE BEST law NJ has on the books! LOL!
  • I love Taylor Ham
  • I love the delis and bakeries
  • I love the food in general
  • I love the change of seasons
  • I love the shore (Though I don't go enough)
  • I love the history- ie: lightbulb, telegraph, TV, phonograph, movies, oh and 'Washington-slept here' is very common around here.....we always say the guy slept around!
  • I love living in the NYC suburbs and being able to go into NY to see a broadway show, go to a restaurant, etc any time I want
  • The 4 major malls with in driving distance
  • My family is here
  • Nowadays, is 'cool' to be Italian and from NJ- basically everyone has their own TV show! LOL! Why don't I?!?  hee hee

  • LOL at Italians from Jersey.  You should have your own show!  ;-)

I would be open to moving to another area for a new adventure, but here is my list of why I wouldn't want to leave the DC area:

*I love being close to a major city (DC) with metro access near our house.

*I love that all of our family is pretty close by, and couldn't imagine not having our parents around to visit with and help out.

*We live in a family-oriented neighborhood with parks/playgrounds and lots of SAHM friends.

*We have everything we need within a few miles of our house (all major stores, a HUGE mall, restaurants, kids activities, etc)

  • we have a young neighborhood--if you don't have a toddler/preschooler/infant you are in the minority-makes it fun

we have 4 state parks within 20 minutes of our home--hiking, canoeing, camping, relaxing

we are a short 30-45 minute drive to the Twin Cities--meaning all the shopping you could want (hour to Mall of America) and shows etc.

our school district is surprisingly good

spring and summer this year are lasting longer than winter did ;)

but with winter we have 2 ski hills and snow tubing hills within 10 minutes of our home

our families are 3 hours away--just right :)

with that said though i would love to live out west closer to mountains just can't beat their beauty

  • There are two reasons why I wouldn't move to NYC (my dream locale):

    1.  laundromats

    2.  no Wegmans

  • random thought on NJ (I live here too, but Southern NJ).....isn't it odd how we don't reallly have our own major city.   it's almost as though you are either a suburb to NYC or a suburb to Philly!

We live in a suburb of the Twin Cities.

5 Targets within a 15 minus radius (and they're all pretty good since all the buyers are around here)

    I love the season changes.

I love all of the lakes, parks, and bike trails.

The majority of our family is less than two hours away from us.

    The schools are great.

  • I love our four seasons - and that 3 of them are summer

We're far from family, but I love that DH and I have created a new life for ourselves out here

I moved a lot as a kid and I really look forward to DD truly being able to say that this is her hometown and a place that will always feel like home, no matter where she goes when she grows up.

  • People ask why I would never leave the Boston area, despite the insane COL - here's why:

real seasons - you appreciate perfect 75 degree sunny spring days more when the winter sucks

winter is the worst thing we face - I'll take the occasional blizzard over earthquakes, tornadoes, category 5 hurricanes and mudslides.

beautiful beaches and the mountains are a short drive away

Boston culture - it's the best city

politically, I like living in a place where things like gay marriage are legal and accepted as normal.

my family all ended up in Mass.

my ILs live in Ireland, and from Boston it's an easy flight to Dublin

the only thing missing was Target, but for about the last 10 years, we've had those too.

  • Here are the reasons I could never leave FL:

    - I get cold in 60 degree weather. This winter, we had days in the 20s and I literally thought I would die from frostbite. I just didn't leave the house.

    - I LOVE living close enough to theme parks that I can enjoy them, but not have to vacation at them. God bless anyone who can do Disney multiple days in a row, but I go once and I need a break. It's too overwhelming.

    - Laying in the pool is one of my favorite things to do and I can't imagine not being able to do it 6+ months of the year

    - I have a very small family (like, just my parents) and I couldn't leave them. Especially not with a husband that travels for work.

    - I love that I live in a small town, but I am 30 minutes away from the beach, theme parks, great, restaurants, major sporting teams, etc. I feel like my little town is really in the best location.
