When do you get the epidural?

I don't remember, although I think it does depends on your hospital. I've heard 3cm, I think I've hear 5cm, and then of course some people try to hold out, but decide they can't make it and get it towards the end (7 or 8cm dilated). What have you heard?

At our birth class they reccomended requesting it around 4-6 cm.

I got mine at about 7 cm (after 8 hours of labor). I will be going without this time. I hated it!

With my first DD, I think I was 4 cm, but I could have been 5 cm. I thought you could get it any time after 4 cm.

With my DD I got mine at 6. Not fun, I would have gotten it sooner but they sent me home so I labored until 6cm at home.

I think you can ask for it at 4cm, but I held out as long as I could with terrible back labor for 12 hours and finally got the epi. I went from a 4-8cm in 20 min.

This really depends on your hospital and your doctor. Some doctors say you have to be x cm dilated to get it, but mine told me I only needed to be having consistent painful contractions to get one because otherwise all it does is slow down labor. GL!

With my first epidural guy was available when i was around a 4 so i went ahead and got it cause i was worried he would be busy when i needed it. Right after I got it they checked me again and I was at a 9. Glad I asked for it when i did!

I was 6 cm by the time I got to the hospital. I asked for it immediately! After it was in, the doc checked me and I was fully dilated. I had a super fast labor....but I'm getting it as soon as I can this time!

I got mine at 9 cm. My water broke, I went to the hospital immediately and was already 7-8 cm dilated. So I asked for it right then, they got it to me within 40 minutes.

We just had our birthing class to day and they told us it depends on the delivery and the doctor but generally between 4-8 cm, if you are progressing pretty quickly they may make the cut off earlier than 8cm.
