I think it matters a lot where and how you will use it.  Are you in the City or 'burbs?  In and out of the car or on and off the subway?  Do you live in a walk-up or elevator building?  Will you have to keep it in the house?  Hallway?  Garage?

I live in the City and our stroller is like our car.  Has to perform well on bumpy sidewalks, fit groceries and be light enough to carry down the subway stairs.  We initially had a Bugaboo (for the neighborhood) and a Maclaren (for the subway and car).  We eventually sold the 'boo for a City Mini which folds with one hand and is relatively light.  They also sell a car seat adapter so it can take a Graco car seat.  I love it.

I'll be getting the babyjogger city mini with the graco infant seat adapter.  That sucker is LIGHT and folds up super easily with one hand.  I played with one at a local shop and knew I had to buy it.

  • Honestly if I had been smart enough the first time around I would have just done the jogging stroller, and get a carseat attachment for it for newborns to up to 3 months.

Travel systems are nice but so very bulky and I like to go for walks, so the jogging stroller is just more convenient for me.

  • I have 4 strollers and while it may seem excessive to some, it worked great in our situation.

We had a Graco travel system that I kept over at my mom's house since she was watching my DD. She loved to use it to take her on walks. I then kept a snap n go in my car to still be able to use her infant carrier in a stroller. The snap and go was really light and compact and worked great.

The travel system was great for parks, and places you needed to carry tons of stuff.

Then, I had a jogging stroller and sold it. It didn't fit into my car and I just didn't like how bumpy the ride was for my DD when she was really little. It never got used so I returned it. The thing was huge even folded up so unless you have an SUV/Van I doubt it will fit.

We also have two umbrella strollers. I have a really nice Graco one and then just a cheapie. Both my mom and I have one. I started using the umbrella stroller once we transitioned her out of the infant carrier which was right around 14 months.

So really I did have 5 at one time, but now I only have 4. I love the umbrella stroller for Katie's age right now. Have fun shopping!

I know this is a dumb question, but could someone tell me what a "travel system" is?  Smile

  • like other ladies have said, it depends on your lifestyle and what is most important, long term use, price, weight, features etc..?

one hint i'll give is to go to baby stores like babys r us and try some out, set them up and fold them down, pick them up etc. for me I wanted something that didnt take an engineering degree to fold and unfold and something that was light so I dont wreck my back getting it in an out of my SUV.?

and to answer the other Q a travel system is a type of stroler made to be kind of modular, the car seat hooks into the stroller and then nclips and hooks into the carseat base, then you can use it when the child gets bigger as a more standard stroller, they're convenient but usually erally heavy and bulky to haul around.?

my other piece of advice is to check recalls before buying, see wht ones are already out there and what brand doesnt have as many as othaers. double important if buying one second hand.

  • Strollers are definitely a very personal choice.  The one thing I always recommend is that you go into a store and play with them before deciding.  You need to see how you like their handling, folding mechanism, etc.

Also, I made the mistake of getting a stroller the first time around that didn't have a locking mechanism for when it was folded.  I swear I almost broke my back lifting that sucker into the car and having it pop open on me.  It sucked.

The "travel system" is where it comes with the car seat, base, and stroller. A lot of people think the strollers are bulky, but we love ours! We have it for DD #1 right now she is still in it as she is only 5 months, and we'll use it on DC #2. I don't think its to heavy for me, I was a single mom tech for 3 months and I was able to lug it up and down the stairs of my upstairs apartment and in and out of my trunk even right after I had her. I like it because even though she is still in her infant car seat (which she hates) she is sitting up on her own and is able to use the stroller just that.

I would suggest a travel system to anyone to be honest until your child gets a little older, we acutaly just got another stroller for Emma as a baptism gift for her, so we'll be using both now.

  • So my next question would be... is there a stroller out there that is great for toddlers (almost as in an umbrella stroller) that can hold and infant carrier or am i going to have to suck it up and get two?!?

I think there are actually a lot out there.  I am kind of liking this Peg Perego one except that we are thinking we don't want side-by-side.
  • haha until my little tadpole actually has arms and legs i cannot even begin to think about this yet.
  • personally i'm a big fan of the umbrella stroller. but alot of jogging style strollers are really good for kids through the toddler years

This is what we are going with. We do lots of walking/running and don't want to have more than one stroller.

  • I really like the Quinny Buzz 3.  I like the Mico Cosi infant car seat which fits into the stroller until baby's big enough to use it without. Love that it opens on it's own and stores relatively flat.  I think I just really like it because the stroller seat is super soft!  I would like to ride in it!  :-)  We'll see though, they seem pretty expensive.

I totally agree with this.  My travel system is a pain, and I would love a jogging stroller.  You also have the option of getting one of the "snap and go" frames for the infant seat for that stage.  One of my friends did that and it worked out really well for her.

  • DH and I are both runners so we will be going with the Bob jogging stroller.  I have a friend that has one and loves it.  Folds up easy too.
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

  • The travel systems are nice but so bulky and heavy. I am definitely getting the Snap 'N' Go for when he/she is in the infant seat, it's so light and easy to maneuver!  We'll have to buy another stroller after it but I'm ok with that (the SNG is cheap). And if my betas are high for a reason, they make a Double Snap 'N' Go, too!

  • I went for the travel system with ds, I think our stroller is a quattro tour, it's big and it's bulky and a PITA to travel with. I use it for walks around the neighborhood and I like it for that. I do wish I would have gotten a snap and go frame to use with the infant seat. When ds was 5 months we bought the Chicco Capri and now just leave it in the car for when we need a stroller.

I'm going to have to start looking at double strollers now...

  • I will probably get a snap and go to keep in the car and use with the car seat for running errands.  I like that the snap and go has a cup holder for mom, and the car seat I saw and liked is a Chicco which will fit into it perfectly.  I also want the Jeep Liberty all terrain stroller so I can use that for walks with the baby and my dogs.  It has the ipod adapter and seems like a reasonably priced one for my needs.
  • I learned the hard way, so I have 4 strollers.

    1) I got a Graco travel system at my shower and never used it.  We used it for walk around our neighborhood, took it on a trip to FL and it was a GIGANTIC pita to open and close.  It has been at the baby-sitters for over a year.

    2) I bought the Graco frame to hold the carseat for $50 and it was the greatest purchase ever.  I used it all the time for shopping and what-not and it took up next to no room in my car.  I used that until DD outgrew her infant seat.

    3) I have a Babyjogger citymini and it is the best stroller ever.  So light, it fold up small, folds with one hand, it's super durable (we took it on a 3 mile job through the woods for a CF walk), and it lays flat, which was important to me, especially on vacations.  We took that to the beach, Sesame Place, trips, everywhere.

    4) We have a cheapie $20 umbrella stroller that we got for free when we spent over $100 at BRU and DH keeps that in his car as a back-up.  It has come in handy on several occasions.

I will be purchasing a SitNStand as well!!

i have a travel system and cheap umbrella stroller from kmart.

i definitely used my travel system when DS was a baby, it was great to just pull out the carseat and put him right into the stroller.  and i use the stroller all the time for walks.

i use the umbrella stroller for quick runs to stores etc... you really do not need anything fancy for your umbrella stroller, except maybe an undercarriage part to store your purse in etc...  mine is a babytrend.

oh and one more thing, for my umbrella stroller, i made sure it had some type of holder thing where i can put my water bottle and DS's bottle, keys, phone etc... it's great for shopping.  i also bought an attachment bag if i want to take that to the mall so i can store some more things, like a change of clothes, wipes, diapers etc...

  • We're leaning towards a Snap'n'Go & separate car seat for while LO is very young, and then as LO gets older/outgrows the infant car seat, we'll get a stroller that fits our needs at that time (probably a jogger because I'm a runner, but we're not entirely sure yet).  I'm not a fan of travel systems - the strollers are usually larger than necessary, and often quite heavy as well.  I just don't want to deal with that early on.

  • I am obsessed with strollers!

I know I am getting a Snap n' Go to use w/ the infant carrier for quick errands, or instances where I don't want to wake my sleeping LO.

I also am in love with the Uppa Babby Vista, in carlin green.  It's a great gender neutral color.  I am obsessed! This would be my regular, "everyday" stroller.  It has the basinet feature for infants, and the regular seat once they get older.  I've tested it, and it is such a smooth ride, and easy to fold.

I also want a BOB jogging stroller, since I love to take walks and would like to start running again next spring.  But, since the Vista is a pricey stroller, and the BOB isn't cheap, either, we might look for this one on craigslist, or wait and get it next spring when I would need it, and only get it if we can afford it.
