For inductions or scheduled C-sections

I have noticed a lot of posts about inductions and scheduled c-sections these days.

I am just curious what the reasons were behind them.  Medical reasons? Breech? Overdue? Too Big?  Other?

I am debating whether or not to ask to induce, and am wondering if I stand a chance with no  medical reasons.

Re: For inductions or scheduled C-sections

  • My induction got scheduled for when I was almost 42 weeks - but I didn't make it to induction date. DD had soem decreased movement and a NST at 41 weeks showed a weird drop in heart rate so we induced that day. Honestly, I wouldn't choose to induce if you have an option to do things naturally.

  • I'm overdue now, but I will be 8 days over for my scheduled induction on Thursday.  LO could still come any time though.  He said I could wait it out but I would have to have another U/S, measure the fluid and some other tests to se if she is doing ok, but I'd rather just have her!
  • I'm having a scheduled section.
My first pregnancy resulted in an emergency section because DS heart rate kept dropping. The (idiot) Dr who preformed the surgery cut me too deep and now i cant deliver naturally without risking me or the baby.
  • I think you'd be fine to ask.  Most Drs wont do it before 39 weeks without a medical reason though.  Mine had already been discussed before the borderline pre-e started.  Now, its just a waiting game to see if I make it to my planned date (go in on May 30th)

  • I just had one because I was overdue.  I would've rather gone into labor naturally, but because of things that we found out during the labor (Baby not getting enough oxygen from the placenta) I'm glad we induced when we did.

  • If my LO continues to be breech at 39 weeks, I will be having a scheduled c-section.

  • My first I was induced due to very low fluid and I ended up with a c-section.  So this baby will be a scheduled c-section.

  • I am having a c section since I had one with DS. After 22 hours of labor DS just didn't fit. He had to be pulled out with the vacuum during my c section. OB won't let me try a VBAC since DD is already bigger than DS was at birth and I still have just shy of 2 weeks left.

  • I'm overdue, but am also having a large baby. He's been measuring almost 2 weeks ahead in length since my 30 week appointment. My midwife wouldn't schedule the date for my induction until I was 10 days past my due date though.

  • Being induced on Thursday because im uncomfortable (and i think my doc didnt want me ruining his holiday plans)
  • We scheduled a c-section due to GD. We were going to schedule an induction, but LO is measuring too big for a vaginal delivery.

  • I was induced with DS at 38w due to pre-e and his size (9lbs 5oz born 2 full weeks early.)

I will be induced on Monday with this baby (39w2d) due to her size (est. 8lbs at 35w) and complications after the birth of DS (mostly hemorrhaging.)

    seriously? wow....

  • I'm being induced on Monday - I'll be 4 days overdue. My doc won't let you go past 41 weeks and it was the only day they had available to "put me on the books" next week. I'm not too happy about it so I am trying everything humanly possible to into labor.

  • I will be induced the day after my due date if the baby hasn't come by then - which hopefully he will have.
  • Scheduled C-section because I had one with DS. I was induced on my due date with him due to him being diagnosed with a Congenital Heart Defect at 22 weeks gestation - his surgeons and cardiologists wanted to know exactly when he was arriving so they knew when to 'plan' his first surgery. After 16 hours of labor they realized my pelvis is odd shaped so a vaginal delivery wasn't happening.
  • I'm having a scheduled c-section 3 days before my due date.  With DS, I ended up having a C-section because he wouldn't fit out.  When the dr. did the c-section, he said that I have one of the smallest pelvises he'd ever seen and that I'd always have to have sections.

I was supposed to be induced with DS at 6 days past my due date b/c dr. said they don't let you go past 41 weeks but I ended up going into labor 3 days past my date.

  • My water broke with my first, but I didn't progress within 24 hours even with the maximum safe amount of pitocin so I had a c-section. This baby will be a scheduled c-section.

  • I will be induced just shy of 39 weeks because I have type 1 diabetes and they don't want the baby to be too big.
  • hmmmm... after reading these posts, I can see it will probably not be possible to have an induction without a justified medical reason.

    Bummer to me.

  • For my first pregnancy I was induced due to pre e, my labor was slowly progressing and the Dr. said my pelvic bone was too small for natural birth so I had a C-section. With this pregnancy the I'm a Scheduled c because my pelvic bone and my Dr. didn't think a vbac was a good idea.

  • I have a c-section scheduled for 39 weeks.  I had an emergency section with my DS and am not a good candidate for a VBAC (I am also high risk due to a chronic health condition).
  • I don't think it hurts to ask ... I've already been given the green light to schedule an induction at 39 weeks b/c I have 2 little ones at home who we let come in their own time and I had very quick L&Ds with both (one literally shot out and landed on the unbroken-down bed still in his amniotic sac!). Now we live out in the country without family close by, so a scheduled induction will remove the extra stress of (1) worrying about childcare and (2) worrying about delivering a baby on the side of the road!!!
  • If I can make it the next 2 weeks without having any change in my condition, I will be induced at 37w because of pre-e.  If something changes before then, I will be induced sooner.
  • I am planning to be induced on my due date. My husband is in the Army and is scheduled to deploy shortly after the birth. We just want him to have as much time with his little boy as possible before he has to leave.
  • My due date is July 19th but due to my type one diabetes and high BP they have scheduled me for a C-Section on June 30th, which is 19 days before my actual due date.  I will be 37 weeks 2 days.  My first son was delivered via Emergency C-Section due to his heart rate dropping over a 6 hour period and he was born at 36 weeks 4 days.
