Which bottles - Dr. Brown's or tommee tippee?

We have both of them and I don't want to open one if we use the other. DD is exclusively breastfed and I pump into the Medela bottles so that DH or ILs can take care of her while I leave the house. She takes the Medela just fine but she does get more gassy with bottles.

When she starts up day care in July and getting bottles more regularly I want to make sure she is getting a bottle that will not contribute to her gas. So if you have experience with one or both, thoughts? I know one complaint about the Dr. Brown's is all the parts to them but I haven't heard too much about the tommee tippee (we didn't register for them but a British friend said they are all the rage there or something)

  • C uses Nubys and the anti-colic Tommee Tippees.  We have an unopened Dr. Brown's upstairs.  Haven't felt the need to open it.

  • The TT was too high-flow for L. But I still have it and will give it a try again. DrBs had too many parts - I didn't need the extra cleaning overhead - and the preemie nipple was too high-flow. I ended up using the DrB (minus the guts) as my pumping and fridge storage bottles. And now I use the 8oz ones as my formula shaking bottles.

The Playtex Ventaire had the slowest flow nipple we could find so we use that bottle. L is far less gassy, oddly, since we switched to formula.

  • Dr. Browns made Dylan congested (very strange...).  We hated the drop-ins and Playtex Ventaire.  We are using Born Free and are very happy with them.

  • We switched to Dr Browns when we found out Rena had reflux and they worked great for us. There are a couple extra parts to wash but it wasn't really a big deal.

We use the wide mouth Dr. Brown's and like them.  We used the Breastflow ones in the beginning but Cooper is pretty gassy and the Dr. Brown's seem to help.  He's still gassy but better... maybe?  :) I sometimes wish I bought the narrow ones because they screw onto the PISA, so less washing.

  • We used Dr. Browns with Grant, and also have been with Brady. They are a lot of parts, but they really work well. Also, fwiw, when we were at Women's and Brady was in the NICU, the babies that were not being tube fed and were close to going home were being fed with Dr. Brown's, so I figure that speaks volumes. The occupational therapist told us she thought they were the best on the market.

  • We did Avent and have had no issues.  Cooper had some gas at first, but it happened randomly - not bottle related.
  • We used Dr. Browns the entire time with DD and she has had no issues with gas.  The extra parts are a pain, but i just put mine in the dishwasher or if i needed one right then and they were all dirty, I would usually just fill up one side of the sink with hot soapy water and let them soak for 10 mintues and then scrubbed with the bottle brush and that was it.  It wasnt that much of a hassle.
