We just went for a quick weight check at our pediatrician's office, and DS is down 2 oz from Tuesday. I know 2 oz isn't much, but the nurse freaked me out by asking if I was supplementing (no) or if he had any troubles latching (no). I don't get it - I've been so engorged and he's been eating all the time and making tons of dirty diapers. I'm now waiting for the pediatrician's call and nervous about what he's going to say (we didn't see the doctor because it was just a weight check).
He's 6 days old today. Anyone else go through this with early weights? I am feeling a bit flustered.
Re: When did your LO stop losing and start gaining?
Emme was born in the 60% for weight and dropped to below 25% before everything was said and done. I clearly was not making enough milk for her. She started gaining around 4 weeks and I'm happy to say that she's now in the 95% for weight and height!
DS lost weight until his 2 week appointment. It was scary!
The standard is that babies should be back to their birth weight by 2 weeks. As long as diaper count is good you should be fine.

this!! it took my LO about 3 1/2 weeks to get back to his birth weight, partly because the pedi got me so stressed out about his weight. i was so nervous because i didnt want to have to supplement. once our PA and lactation counselor both encouraged me to just relax, everything was good!
Ditto to the others. I certainly hope they're not trying to push you into supplementing if that's not the route you're trying to take. DH is always concerned that the kids aren't weighing enough (they're just fine) but when I brought formula up at one of the 1st appts she really stressed that he didn't need any and he gets all he needs from my own milk. I did one bottle of formula each night from about 2 wks b/c DS was constantly nursing and just not getting enough food but was able to go back to EBF later. Do whatever you feel most comfortable doing, and know that your DS is still little so he'll probably start packing on the lbs pretty soon.
Congrats on your little boy!
