Baby Names Board Etiquette

I lurk like mad on the Baby Names board. It seems like everyone over there is pregnant or has a child already. Judging by the thread views it's a popular place to lurk.

I vote in all the clicky polls, but I never post my opinions. It's sometimes veeeeerrrrrrry hard to keep my thoughts to myself.

Do any of you post there?

That's the thing. It's probably a good thing I don't post because I wouldn't have anything nice to say about so many of the names. And if you can't say something nice . . .

I used to post over there a little bit. I was always honest with my opinions on names. It is a fun place to lurk though, because there are always some crazy names to entertain you

I do, never posted anything though. I don't understand why people make up polls to complete strangers on picking out their child's name. And then get mad when people don't like them. I feel like saying well then don't put it out there for a public vote! lol

Yep. I post over there occasionally. I just tell them honestly if it is truly a horrible/made-up name . If the name isn't that bad then I just tell them it's NMS and be done with it.

I agree though, a lot of the stuff over there is unbelievable and I do feel bad for the stuff their children will have to go through just because of a name.

See, this is what I might start doing. Sometimes on that board I feel it is the responsibility of neutral observers to try to save the poor child from its parents.

I post there.

Especially in times of 'I want to name my baby Aydyyson Madddyysyn'.

It would be an injustice to the child to keep my mouth shut.

Yeah, I do. I'll tell people if their name is ridiculous or if I like it. I've also gotten opinions on a couple of our phantom baby names. I love names.

I post ALL the time over there! I don't care if you have a kid or not; if someone has horrible taste and is dooming their child to a lifetime of mockery, somebody needs to say something!

I also think those people crazy themselves over Middle names. Nobody really cares what your middle name is or asks for it so don't over think it.

I am a regular on a different name board, not bump related. ?I cannot tolerate the bump name board, its like the blind leading the blind over there. ?Anyway, yes I am a regular, as in I post on most threads, even though I am not even ttc yet. ?I started posting there 2+ years ago when expecting #2 and haven't left. ?I have a good relationship with lots of the ladies there, and there are several that are regs that are not expecting or even trying.

I am a name nerd that likes looking for trends, watching unexpected gems get used, and helping others see the that their choices are not uncommon or flattering.?

I've never started a thread but I do post fairly often. I try to avoid the ones where people are announcing their final decision on a name. I feel like if they're committed, I'm not going to try and change their mind. I do post on the "My DH and I don't agree" posts quite a bit. I love baby names and like coming up with suggestions for other people. I also will post if I like a name that other people seem to be bashing.
