Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Joint Pain

Ever since my DD was a month old my joint pain has gotten progressively worse daily. I'm too young to be feeling this old! Every single joint in my body hurts, constantly! So today I finally saw a doctor and they're running tests for possible thyroid disorder and maybe Rheumatoid arthritis. I was wondering if any other moms experienced this and how did you treat it? Tylenol will only help for so long, and I'm hoping to stay away from prescription drugs. Is there a way to treat it naturally? TIA!

Re: Joint Pain

  • Yes, I went through the same thing and was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. On one hand I was glad to have an answer for the pain, and on the other hand it's a bummer to know that it's not going to go away any time soon.

  • I can't speak from personal experience, but I think that Glucosamine could help (?)

Come to think of it, maybe I will try it myself - as I do seem to "creak" and "crack" a lot more now that I've got the LO.

I know exactly how you feel. Of course, I don't want to have this, but on the other hand, I hope they find something just so I know I'm not in all this pain for nothing!

  • I saw the doctor two weeks ago for this.  They ran a battery of tests and the Rheumatoid test came back negative.  The "ESR" test (something sedimentation rate...) came back very high.

Apparently all that test tests for though is some type of "inflammation,"... way too vague and inconclusive.

I was told to give it a couple more months and that my body is probably just settling back down from pregnancy.

I don't buy it but, whatever.  It's bearable for now - just annoying and disconcerning.

I started with a blood test and my rheumatoid factor came back high. Because I have a sister with RA I was sent to a rheumatologist for further testing. She did a more specific blood test, inspection of joints and x-rays to check for joint damage.

RA diagnosis needs the clinical (symptoms) + blood test. You'll probably be referred to a rheumatologist for further testing.

If you have any questions, let me know!

  • Since my DD was born, I had major pain in both of my legs.  I was fine walking and sitting; but anytime I tried to kneel, pain would shoot down both of my legs.  I went to the doctor and he did an unltrasound of both legs, but nothing showed up.  He said to try hot and cold compresses and take Tylenol.  The pain did get worse, but is actually starting to disappear now.  I can actually kneel again without hurting.  Not sure if this helps, but thought I'd share.
