Postpartum Depression

XP anxiety meds and pregnancy

I got in with a psychologist, and got some prescriptions. The Psychologist consulted with an OB/GYN who specialized is reproductive psych conditions at UofI.

She  (the specialist) approved these meds, and they are actually the ones she suggested.

My question is: Should I run them by my OB as well, or trust the specialist over my OB?

My OB seems to be more conservative than I need at times, and I am not taking these prescriptions lightly. I have greatly weighed risk vs benefits, and feel that this is needed for me.

WDYT?

  • i would let my OB know what meds i'm on the next time i see them, but i would not actively seek out their approval if you're seeing a specialist for it.

This. Given her speciality, the specialist is better informed about the meds and pregnancy than your regular OB. But, it's good to let your OB know about the meds.

I am only relying on my psych's advice and my OB is too -- she didn't want to touch my meds and told me to talk to the psych.

I have OCD and panic attacks.  I saw a psychiatrist all throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding.  She regulated my meds bc she specialized in pregnancy and BF while taking meds.

Trust the prescribing doctor.  As long as the prescribing doctor knows you're pregnant, then you're good.  It's also important to let your OB know what meds you're on though so they can provide you with the best care.
