Upstate NY Babies

Scary Article

This goes along with everything that I have believed for years...kind of scary...especially the part about the number of chemicals babies are born with in their body. I'm hoping they are right and this report will start to change some things.

  • I think it's weird that this is even news. Everyone has known this for years! It's like smoking...people know it's bad for them yet they still do it.

    Ha ha ha so true!

At my SIL wedding this weekend we were sitting next to a couple expecting their second child. The husband went off on a unsolicited tangent about giving up things for nine months is worth it, ie certain cheeses and other foods that may be risky, he went on and on and on and on and on. While I agree on certain things this guy was going to the extremes and his wife didn't say a word.

It was on the tip of my tongue to ask if they eat organic meat and drink organic milk. But I was good and didn't get into it with him. I just let him talk and talk and talk until I could get up and leave.

  • I definitely became "more aware" of what I was exposing myself to when I was pregnant.  I started warming up food in glass/ceramic bowls and drinking out of stainless steel re-fillable bottles.  We also started buying more organic food and using more organic cleaning products.  I think that there is so much in the actual environment, that we have no idea about.

  • I still find it amazing that people worry so much about organic foods but then drink diet soft drinks, and eat 'lite' foods with artificial sweeteners and artificial flavorings.  Don't get me wrong, I don't think the chemicals used on our foods are good for us, but there are a lot more sources of chemicals into our bodies than pesticides.  Lotions and make up absorb directly into our skin and blood stream, breathing in lawn chemicals and engine exhausts, hair care products and misting purfumes go directly into our lungs and into our blood stream, even our jewelery can be a source of heavy metals!  Did you know those thermal reciepts, the shiney ones that don't need ink and darken over time, those have WAY more BPA than any baby bottle and really should never be handled by pg women.  The pesticides on our food is just a small drop in the bucket.

OMG I just heard about the BPA?receipt?thing not that long ago. I would never ever known that if it wasn't for young house love. I'm on the same boat as you. I've changed my lotions, soaps, cleaning agents in my house. It's so much more than food and the stuff that I can control...I do. :o)
