Baby Names

Girl name - Thoughts?

My husband and I have had a hard time agreeing on names.  I am sure most of the problem is me because I can't make up my mind/commit.

These are our top five names.  2 are DH's and 3 are mine in no particular order.  Our last name is Tucci, like the actor Stanley Tucci (ch sound).

-Halle

-Lucia (we would pronounce LOO-sha)

-Sofia

-Bianca

-Signe

Out of all of them I love Bianca, and like Sofia.

Lucia pronounced the way you want it will be super confusing for people with your last name. I have no idea how to pronounce Signe - SIG-nee? Halle, I can't put my finger on why it is NMS.

I think that I like three syllables in a first name with your last.

  • I love Sofia!  Sofia Tucci is very pretty imo.  I also like Halle.

Lucia is a beautiful name, but pronounced that way it makes me want to say Loo-Sha Too-Sha even though I know that's not how your ln is pronounced.  I just don't think it works with your ln.

    The others are nms.

  • I love Sofia, but it's not very popular in my area. We have three Olivias, but only one Sofia.

I love the name Lucia, but not really with your last name.

  • I really like Sofia, it's so classic and beautiful. As for Lucia, I think people would pronounce it - Loo-see-ah - I knew a girl in university and she spelled her name the same way and pronounced it - loo-see-ah as well.

  • Love Lucia, but it doesn't go very well with your last name. I agree that 3 syllables sounds best and Sofia is so popular, my vote would be Bianca.

With your last name, I would use Sofia or Bianca.

Lucia Tucci sounds wrong to me.

Halle Tucci is OK, but I prefer the spelling Hallie.

  • I love Bianca then Lucia/Sofia.

  • I don't like Halle or Lucia with your last name, particularly Lucia, which sounds like the beginning of a pet name. Or a silly nickname.

I like Bianca with your last name.

    sofia or bianca.

if i had to choose b/w the two, i'd probably go with bianca b/c it seems less common than sofia...you really can't go wrong with either name though!

  • I love Sofia and Bianca.

  • i like halle, but i'm not sure that i like the first and last name ending w/the E sound.

i would go w/lucia or bianca. i like sofia but it's too popular.

i didn't read the other replies yet, so this may have been covered, but i don't know how to pronounce signe.

eta: nevermind on lucia. i was thinking loo-see-ah, which i like w/tucci. but loosh-ah w/tucci sounds totally odd.

    LOVE Halle & Bianca!
  • Thanks for all the feedback.  So here is the truth behind all the names:

Sofia: DH's choice, not mine.  It's too popular in my opinion but he won't let it go! I agree it is a beautiful name.  But no.

Halle: Again, DH's choice, which I like too.

Signe: My choice and DH said no way jose!

Bianca: One of our original names.  We both like.

Lucia: I snuck this one in.  DH and I hadn't discussed this name but when I came across it and it's meaning I fell in love.  My father's (passed) middle name was Lucien (French).  Lucia is the Italian/fem variation.  When I shared that with my husband he fell in love with the name, too!  He really wants to honor my father even though they never met.

So, although Lucia doesn't go as well with our last name as Bianca or Sofia or others, it matches all our criteria for a name: italian, different (but not odd) and meaningful.

     I still welcome opinions though!

  • With your last name I'd like Sofia, or Bianca

Yay! I'm glad you posted this! What do you think about using Lucia as a middle name? I think the story behind it is really sweet.
