3rd Trimester

How many of you have...

I've had this recent urge to dye my hair. Now, I won't do it unless it's safe. If it's not, I'm waiting until after LO is born.

How many of you have dyed your hair or had highlights done?

I've heard mixed things on it, especially since I'm in 3rd tri now.
Thoughts!?

  • It's safe; just make sure you're in a well-ventilated area.

  • I was told that if you have it done by a professional it's perfectly safe. Some of the at home dyes have different chemicals in them.

  • The only reason I'm not is to save money. The important thing is to make sure you are in a well-ventilated area.

  • I haven't.  Just wanted to say that I also have this sudden urge, I think it is the weather.  I want something lighter now.  I would not hesitate to do highlights but I like all over colors so I'm just going to wait a bit since I dont have much longer to go.

  • My Dr. said it was ok to dye my hair as long as it didn't bother me. Although when I did dye my hair...the hormones changed my hair, now the dye actually doesn't take as well to my hair. So I have only dyed it twice this whole pregnancy and plan on having it done as soon as LO is here.

  • I highlight/lowlight my hair - I didn't stop or anything since I've been preg.  I go every 8 weeks.  Only difference than what we did before is that she uses ammonia free toner and is very careful about touching my scalp.  In the first tri, she just used ammonia free dye to highlight my hair (instead of regular highlight stuff).

And, I'm pretty funny about being careful most things too...

  • It is safe, HOWEVER, for a small population of women hormones can cause the dye to either not take at all or to be a MUCH different color than intended.
  • I didn't in the first tri but have twice since and I was just fine. I died my darker though and I don't know if that makes a difference.

I work for a hair care/color distributor and have colord my hair with permanent color every 4-6 weeks since I got my BFP.

  • I just had mine highlighted last week for the first time in months (had the sudden urge too).  The stylist had to leave the chemicals on for almost twice the time because the highlights just weren't taking.  Finally after an hour (under the dryer to help speed it up), they finally took!

  • Like a PP said, it's safe as long as you're in a well ventilated area. I was dying because my hair looked like trailer trash and my Dr laughed at me and told me to not worry it is fine!

One of my best friends is also a hair stylist so she is around those chemicals all day and her two kids turned out just fine. :)

  • I've had my hair highlighted twice since I've been pregnant. I waited until I was in the 2nd tri, but was told it was totally safe.
  • I've had my hair done 3 times since being pregnant, highlights and all. COMPLETELY safe, as long as you are out of first trimester. And in a well ventilated area.

  • It is very safe, just make sure the room is ventilated.  The chemicals won't seep through your skin and into the baby! :)  I had my hair highlighted when I was pregnant with DD.

  • i started after my 1st tri. my hairstylist does use a different product though since it doesn't have a certain chemical in it and is supposed to be safer!

  • I have twice so far.  I will get it done one more time before the baby comes. You are fine as long as it is well ventilated.
