Did anyone have placenta previa?

Just came back from my 2nd tri ultrasound and I have placenta previa. Ugh. The doc said it moves on its own abut 50% of the time, so I may have nothing to worry about, otherwise I'd need a c/s. He also said I need "pelvic rest" - no sex (no problem!) and generally take it easy. What does this mean in terms of exercise?

Eeek - this is freaking me out, even though I know nothing else is wrong...talk me through this please!! thanks!

  • I had it with DD, but it went away on its own by 34 weeks!

  • I had placenta previa, which was found at my 20 week ultrasound.  It resolved by 30 weeks on its own. I was able to go to prenatal yoga and walk, but that was pretty much the only exercise they Ok'd for me. I just made a list of the types of exercise I normally do/did and went over it with the nurse on the phone before hand.
  • Yes, with ds1. it moved up, but was still low lying at term so I opted for the c-section. OB gave me the choice though.
  • I had it with DS (and was close to having it again this time). Mine never cleared up, although my dr. said about 85-90% of them do. So, I had to have a scheduled c/s at 37w6d, I was on pelvic rest the entire time along with no heavy lifting or exercise, I had frequent u/s's, and was told that if I bled 3 times they would have to deliver DS no matter what. Luckily, I only bled once. I was monitored very carefully, and everything with the c/s was fantastic, so it all ended up fine.

  • I had it and it cleared up on its own.

Had to have an extra ultrasound around 24 weeks to check on it and it was "gone".

  • I had this with DD and it moved up by 28-29 weeks. My doc said that the majority of the time they do.

I avoided sex, heavy lifting (anything over 10-15 pounds), and the only exercise I did was walking but I think swimming would be okay. I'd ask your OB though :)

  • I had it, but it moved in plenty of time.  I didn't have pelvic rest.  It wasn't a big deal and the only problem was I couldn't feel ds moving until later in the pregnancy (like after 20 weeks).
