Postpartum Depression

Those on Zoloft...

I've been taking Zoloft since 4 weeks PP with great results. My OB suggested trying to wean myself off of it slowly at this point. So over the weekend I began the cycle of taking it every other day. I'm noticing a definate difference. I'm alot less patient, feeling more anxious and overwhelmed, and generally angry at the world. Is this just an adjustment period or am I just doing this too soon? My OB said I may have to go back on it full time and try to wean again in a few months. I'm just wondering how much time I should give this before giving the OB a call. I'm not feeling nearly as awful as I did prior to the medication, but what I am feeling is enough to cause concern.

  • I honestly think you need to take it for longer.  PPD often lasts and can start a year or so after the birth of your child.  I think I would try to wean off of the meds later and keep taking them for a while.  Just my opinion though.  I would call my OB and inform them about the situation and see what they say.

  • i think its way too soon to come off of it!
  • My psychiatrist requires his PPD/PPA patients to stay on the drugs for a full year. Then, you wean very slowly. Taking it only every other day seems odd to me. Definitely call your doctor (or get a referral to a psychiatrist with more experience prescribing anti depressants).
