Today at my dr. appt., the dr. referred to the baby as "she" twice. We didn't find out what we're having. I said, "'She'?!? Do you know something I don't know?!" and he said 'no' and just brushed it off as an insignificant slip of the tongue. I'm assuming that's the case, b/c my DD was in the room and maybe we'd just been talking about when I was pregnant with "her". However, does anyone know if it IS common practice to write the sex on the chart during an ultrasound, whether or not the parents want to find out?
I did quickly skim over my chart when he left the room, but didn't see anything noticable to my untrained eye. However, he came in the room knowing it was my birthday today, so I know he was looking at my info before he came in.
I'm sure I'm totally overthinking this.... but now if it IS a girl, I know I'll always wonder....
ETA: Just to clarify, this dr. never did an ultrasound on me. Only the ultrasound tech did. I'm just specifically wondering if they record that info anywhere, even when parents didn't request it.
Re: PR: Do drs usually know the sex if you didn't find out?
My MW warned me before my ultrasound that if we decided not to find out then, it wouldn't be in our chart to find out later.
I think a lot of people just use gender-specific terms to avoid saying "it" when talking about a baby whose sex is unknown. My MW called LO "him" or "her" more than once before we even had our u/s.
Same for us. The ultrasound tech looked but did not put it down in our chart because we didn't want to know.
Not in my OB's practice. Unless you find out at the 20-wk u/s, you wouldn't be able to find out because they do not mark gender on the chart.
My OB used to change up the pronoun depending on the day. I wouldn't read into it too much.
My doctor never knows if his patients don't want to know. He just always referred to her as "baby." We didn't find out the gender, but the u/s tech said "he" a couple of times, when I questioned her, she said that's the pronoun she always uses. Obviously, that's the case, because I have a daughter!
