Eli - Body Shop

Hi Eli,

I know you asked a while ago about taking your car to a body shop to fix dents and scratches before turning in your lease.  I need to turn in my BMW this weekend, but I don't want to be charged an arm and a leg for a couple of scratches.  Where did you take your car?  Did they give you a good price?

Hola! Sandy recommended Manger Body Shop and they were great. I went through my insurance but they will definitely work with you on the price.

  • Thanks for the rec!

Did you do this before the lease-end inspection?  Or, did you wait to see what the dealership was going to charge you first?

Before - I don't know if I told you guys but I still haven't turned in my car! I was confused about the length of my lease, so it's actually up next month. But they left my car perfect. I had a dent and scratch on the passenger's side and it's like new now.

  • LOL, the opposite happened to my mom.  She thought she had an extra month, but luckily she was able to turn in her lease and lease a new Accord with the same salesman that I got the CRV from.  I had already done some research on Hondas, so she got a good deal.

I'm not sure what to do.  My parents say that the scratches on my car are no big deal and they won't charge me, but they always lease the same car.  Since I'm returning the BMW and not leasing a new one, I'm concerned they'll be very picky.  I'm getting a tire replaced tomorrow b/c I know they'll charge for that, but IDK if I should get the scratches fixed.

That's the thing - if you lease a new car from them, usually they will ignore little scratches and dents to close the deal. But if you're not, they can be a real PITA about little things to suck as much money out of you as they can. I would be too paranoid to wait until after the inspection. That's just me, though.

  • I've just been soooo busy and I feel burnt out!  I figured since I was leasing another car but from the same dealership that they would be more forgiving.  So far, the salesman on the Honda side included in the contract that they'll take care of the extra miles and he said the scratches are no big deal.  But when I've spoken to the BMW lease-end inspector at the same dealership, he sounds like a real PITA.  He wouldn't let the salesman at Honda take care of my lease-end paperwork, even though they're in the same complex!  I'll try to take care of it tomorrow, but I've just been so tired =(

Poor you :( Can't you make Jose do it?? lol.. Are you planning on going through your insurance company? My car took two weeks for what I thought were minor dents and scratches and the body shop took care of everything in dealing with them.

  • He's burnt out, too, b/w work and the house projects.  I didn't think it would take 2 weeks!  I may not be able to do it at all, then.  I don't want to go through insurance b/c I don't think it would be enough to reach my deductible anyway.  Let's see how things go tomorrow when I get the tire replaced.
