veg bf'ing mama

Just wondering if there are any vegetarian bf'ing mamas and how you deal with the diet?

We eat a lot of veggies, beans, garlic, spicy foods and I adore chocolate so I'm afraid to give the boys my bm b/c I don't want to upset their tummies...

Right now they are ff to gain weight but I've been pumping...

  • My cousin is doing it for her nb (well 2 weeks) and she's not really having any problems other than losing a lot of weight and the doctor suggesting she eats waaayyy more calories!

  • I'm a vegetarian and we never had any problems. I eat a ton of really spicy food. I was cautious about spice in the first 2 months or so, but then it never seemed to make a difference so I just ate as usual. Some babies are affected by it and some aren't. I would just go slowly and keep track of what you eat. If your LOs seem to be fine, now worries.

And calories were not an issue for me. Vegetarians don't really have to worry about that typically. I'm sure I eat way too many.

  • never had any problems - Max is over 16lbs already. I occasionally eat fish but not enough for it to make a difference with the BFing. Spicy doesn't do anything bad to his tummy, only thing I noticed was that drinking half a bottle of grapefruit juice made his tush red Embarrassed
  • DS has never had any issues with what I eat for my veggie diet.  I eat some pretty spicy food too.  I say try things out and you'll know if a certain food doesn't agree with them.  Hopefully everything will be just fine!

  • Never had any issues here, either.  DD's tummy was never really affected by anything I ate ... and I love spicy stuff!  Of course, she does now, too. lol

  • I never changed anything I ate and I also eat a lot of spicy foods.
  • honestly, I eat what I want ... the only time I really have any problems is when I eat my favorite veggies ... brussel sprouts and broccoli ... I do notice that she gets a little gassy ... poots like a grown man and sometimes when I eat those veggies, its clear that she really doesn't like the way the milk tastes initially, but then she decides that its okay and takes it anyway.
  • Hmm I havent had too many problems but he IS a gassy baby. It seems to have gotten better recently. I have been avoiding beans, because my mom told me I shouldnt eat them. But I may start introducing them in soon because I like them.

I am sure they will be fine, good luck!
