Early POAS vs. drink til its pink

I've heard a lot of ladies on this board mention that they were going to POAS earlier than usual because they have some kind of function to go to and want to drink that night (if they don't get a + on the test).

I am in a wedding this weekend. Is it silly to POAS tomorrow morning (8 dpo) and/or Saturday morning (9 dpo)? I don't know whether I should just skip the POAS and go ahead and drink (since it is so early) or whether it is worth taking tests.

Opinions?

I would skip testing and go ahead and drink but that's just me. Maybe in moderation if you are concerned about it.

no question i would POAS. i wouldn't be able to relax and drink not knowing, so the only way i would drink is if i tested. it's early and chances are it'll be a "-", but then you can relax and have fun at the wedding. if it does come up "+" you'll be so excited it won't matter you can't drink.

I would test Saturday morning. Doubtful you would get a positive that early, but it will make you feel better. Have fun at the wedding!

That is still really early, so I would just go ahead and drink if you wanted to. Just don't overdo it or anything.

Personally, I would POAS Sunday morning (9DPO) just to ease my nerves about drinking at the wedding. But, be aware that the chances of a BFN are really high, so make sure you can handle seeing that blank stick. GL!

The odds of it reading negative but being postive later are so great at testing that early, I would not test. I maybe wouldn't get dancing on a table drunk, but a few of your favorite cocktails should be ok.

I agree. I found out I was pg Jan 25, 2008....a few weeks after a new years eve party. DD is just fine.

I think 9DPO is a little early, but if it will give you peace of mind, then go for it.

Personally, I'd just drink in moderation at the wedding, but I'm not a big drinker, so that wouldn't be hard for me. :-)

Lots of women are in the drink til its pink boat around here. Personally, I will not drink during the 2ww. If you get a (-) which more than likey will happen since it is way early...and then you get a (+) a few days later will it really mean that much to you? Will you care that you had a drink before your BFP?

It really is a personal decision. I won't drink during the 2ww because a drink is not worth it to me.

I don't drink in the 2ww either... I've actually stopped drinking completely when we decided to TTC. It's just a personal decision, and was really easy for me since I barely drink anyway. Otherwise, I agree with what Milliways said. Have fun at the wedding!

If it will make you feel better, and seeing a BFN won't ruin your day, go ahead and test with FMU at 9dpo. I definitely wouldn't test before that.

I'm in the I wouldn't test test camp. The odds of getting a BFP at that point, even Saturday, are so small that I wouldn't want the negative--even if it's early--hanging over my head all day. I would go ahead and drink at the wedding, but in major moderation.

No dancing on a table? I aaaalways get drunk and naked and dance on the tables at weddings.... isn't that what you are supposed to do at weddings?

I would probably not POAS quite that early. Next thursday friends are taking me out to dinner for my bday and DH and I decided I can POAS that morning so I don't feel guilty about it because it will be just 2 days before I expect my period (based on last month). So, odds are I'd be about 12 dpo.

I would drink and have no qualms, but I'm an anti-pee-stick advocate. I say wait until you have a missed period to test, always.

That's a hard question... My SIL was TTC and kept getting negative PT so she went to super cross and had a good time. When she got back she took another test and got a BFP. Turns out she was 7 weeks pg! So beware!!

Honestly, what do you think will happen if you have a couple of glasses of wine at 9dpo? Your kid will be born with two heads? Why do people get worked up about this? There is absolutely no risk of FAS at this point. None.

Even if you get a negative, I wouldn't go crazy on the drinking, just in case. Since I'm TTC, I don't have more than 2 or 3 drinks in one day or night during the 2ww (or really at all to be honest, just not a big deal for me), and that's ONLY rarely... I never want to take the risk.
