I would like to change my answer to a poll from a few weeks ago. I said someone else using our proposed baby names would have no bearing on my choice.
I was just browsing a home blog that I sometimes read (young house love) and they just had a girl and named her Clara. That was #1 on our girls name list and all of a sudden I don't think I like it as much. I guess I would still probably use it b/c it has family significance, but if I was pregnant and hormonal I would probably be a little bummed right now because it's not an overly popular name so I didn't really expect to see it come up anywhere...

Oh, I love Clara! I think it's so cute for a little girl and I can see it 'aging' well-- probably becuase my great aunt 9who is around mid to late 70s) is named Clara. Boo that you don't like it as much!
Well, at least you can start thinking of other options for girl names

we haven't even started thinking about names, really...we'll probably start in earnest only after finding out the gender (7 more weeks! not that i'm counting...) MH has mentioned one boy name that he really likes, and I like it too, but I can easily think of 3 different ways kids could tease about it. sigh. so it will probably be out.
it's hard for me to say how attached i'll feel towards any names we come up with though - there have never been any that i felt were particularly special to me, so we'll have to see! but i'm guessing i'd probably be like you, and less likely to use it if someone else does
I know how you feel...our girl name is an old family name & I didn't know anyone that had the name. since finding out I was pg, my SIL mentioned her long lost friend with the same name (but she lives in Alabama & I've never met her - the friend, not SIL) & on the babynames board someone posted that is her girl name. I don't think I am having a girl so I guess it really doesn't matter, but I would still stick with the name b/c that has always been my girl name...plus it is far from popular.
I feel you on not liking anyone else having your name, but inevitably it is going to happen with at least one other person in the world unless you name your baby onomatopia or something equally unique!
This is totally irrelevant, but onomatopoeia is my favorite word EVER! I love it - pity I don't have many conversations where I can use it lol.
Oh, and there's a mother on one of the parenting boards (0-3 or maybe 3-6 months?) that has a baby boy name Dashiell. I was irrationally annoyed when I discovered this, even though we don't know each other, just because OUR Dash was the only one I'd ever seen on the Nest/Bump lol.
hey lisa, I've been wondering - did you know that Cate Blanchett named her baby Dashiell? i just read it the other day (*after* your Dash made his entrance!) Dashiell John, in fact... (linky) - she liked your names so much she combined them
Someone told me this the other day...at least it's Cate Blanchett, who is talented and very cool and classy and sophisticated. If it was one of the Kardashians we might have to change his name lol!
Actually, Kourtney Kardashian's son's name is Mason Dash Disick.
And here is another celebrity, but their little boy's name is Dashel.
And of course, it was used in The Incredibles.
(I know this because I love this name and before we knew Brooke was a girl, we 'thought' about this name)

I CAN'T HEAR YOU LALALALALALALA!!!!!
HAHA...we are naming our son Mason, not because of the Kardashians but we figured oh well, its not like we know them and both MH and I love that name (even before Kourtney stole it from us
)
