Stay at Home Moms

Would you take a vacation without DH?

I'm thinking about it.  I'm not crazy about going by myself (safety) so I thought maybe with another friend who can get away.  Even if only for a few days.  I'd give the kids to my mom and go someplace warm with a sandy beach.  No road trips.  No packing the "vacation" full of activities.  Just go-with-the-flow and doing what I felt like and when I felt like it.

Lol, by the time I got used to that it would be time to go home Stick out tongue

  • Yes! My BFF and I have taken 2 vacations by ourselves. Last year we met in Chicago for 3 days, and this year we flew to Orlando for 4 days.

  • Absolutely.  I have done it and it's wonderful.  Not for a week or anything, but a few days away with my friends or my mom and sisters is heavenly.

  • wouldn't think twice about it. I wouldn't even need another person.

I have gone up to our lake house (in the adirondacks) before alone- was wonderful!!! haven't done it recently. might be exactly what i need.

  • I definitely would.  I'd find a girlfriend and go somewhere fun and not too expensive to getaway.  Probably 4 days max, just because I think that's all I could handle being away from my whole family and same for my husband being on his own with the kids.  :)  If you can do it, do it.

  • yep done it!   a few years ago 11 of us went to Vegas for a celebration of 15 years of friendship!   it was awesome!  no husbands, no kids just booze, good food, and lots of laughs
  • No way would I ever vacation without DH. Not only would I miss him terribly (and vice versa) but vacations are our time to reconnect and spend lots of time together! I wouldn't waste my time off or my money on a vacay without him.

  • Before I had my son my BFF & I would take an annual trip to a little lake town in northern MI for a weekend and it was awesome.  We wouldn't even book a place to stay, we'd just park at the beach & sleep in the car!  That may sound totally lame but it SO wasn't.  We'd wake up when the sun came up, drive to McDonald's for coffee & then lay out on the beach all morning.  Grab lunch, window shop, back to the beach... totally go with the flow and SO NICE!
  • Yes!   I'd go for a long weekend with a girlfriend to get away if i could.
  • No.  My DH needs a vacation as much as I do.  I would plan something for both of us.

  • Yes B and I took at road trip from Michigan to Florida by ourselves.  I really wanted to go to my cousin's wedding and DH couldn't get time off from work.  So I loaded up the car and off we went.  I would totally do a trip with DS along again.  We traveled during the day and stayed with family and friends along the way.  It was so much fun and I felt really empowered knowing I could do something like that on my own.

Would I, ABSOLUTELY! I do actually. I was just in Cabo in Feb with my girlfriends, Boston with the same group last May. I think girl/guy time is important too. DH goes on annual golf trip with high school friends and a ski trip with college friends. I only wish I could get my girlfriends to do it twice a year too.

Now these trips are not instead of family trips and just alone trips with DH and I. They are in addition to those trips.

  • I am going on a cruise with a group of friends from high school. We haven't all been together in 15 years. DD will be 6 month old by then, but I am already worried about leaving her.

Thankfully DH is so supportive and wants me to take the trip because he figures after 6 months of being a SAHM/WAHM, I will need it!

  • I would.  Not a whole week, but a few days.  I did it to visit a friend in Ohio a few times before we had DD.  Come to think of it, DH went to see his best friend for long weekend when DD was an infant, so it's "my" turn.

  • We both do as long as it leaves enough money for us to still vacation together - and so far it always has. I go for about 4 days with my best friends from college to the beach and he usually goes camping with his good friends for 4 or so days. We also do weekends here and there with our friends although I haven't done anything since DD was born. My first time will be the end of July for my annual beach trip with the girls! I am so excited although it will be my first time away from DD so I am nervous too.

I'm on a vacation without him right now!  DD and I flew to the Lower 48 from Alaska.  We are staying here for 2 1/2 weeks, then driving back home.  We will be apart for about 3 1/2 weeks.

Over Christmas, I took DD to Las Vegas to stay with DH's family, then to see my family.  We were gone for three weeks for that trip.

Even though I would rather take vacations with DH, we live 3000 miles from most of our family.  It is really important to us that DD know her extended family so if we both can't take her to visit, I will by myself.  The schedule flexibility to do that is one of the reasons that I am a SAHM.

  • Absolutely, several every year, actually!

My Mom's Group goes off to Napa Valley and then, to Vegas every year and I always fly back to Texas to spend about a week with my best girlfriends.
