I went ahead and bought two because I got good deals on both of them: a Madela sleep bra in a size XL (I am currently a 38 DD) and one from the gap in a 42 DD (I got it for only $15.99 on clearance, so I thought it was worth a shot once my milk comes in).
I bought 2 sleep bras and 1 regular nursing bra a couple weeks ago to start with. As my milk comes in and I can see how my boobs change, I can buy more.
i bought a couple last month, without really thinking..they fit good and are will give me a little room for growth because the material is stretchy, but now im worried i should have waited until closer to the birth.
I bought two from target because they were so cheap, a regular day bra and a sleeping bra. I picked up a few tanks too. You won't know what size you need until your milk comes in and then adjust itself to your demand. So I wouldn't spend too much until then.
I would buy 2 now, probably a size or so bigger than what you are and make sure they are comfy ones for sleeping in. In a few weeks after your milk has really come in and some post-partum weight has gone done, go buy another one that looks better for out in public. I actually have a huge range of them because of all of the different sizes that I was as I lost my baby weight and then eventually as my breasts deflated (I think after 6-8 months or so was when this really happened). Plus, I had ones for sleeping and then underwire ones that I liked better for going out in public. Best to not buy too many in advance though because you really need to try them on to figure out what is best for you at that particular point. I liked 2 in the beginning because I needed one to wear while I washed the other since I had a lot of leakage in the beginning (along with spit up, etc.).

THIS.
Depending on the brands, nursing bras can be a little pricy. With DS, my milk didn't come in for about 5 days, so I stuck to a couple tanks I purchased at Target. Then, I purchased some good Medela and Bravado ones and wore those OUT! I have yet to purchase any this time around and will probably wait again until after #2 arrives.
I bought two nursing tanks from Target a couple weeks ago. I got size L even though pre-pregnancy I was a 34B. The medium just didn't fit. That's all I plan on buying until 3-4 weeks after baby is born.
34 weeks? My boobs have actually gotten smaller in recent weeks, but I bought 2 sleep bras and 1 regular to get me started. I know a lot of people are just getting nursing tanks and sleep bras, but I wanted something with more support that I would feel comfortable wearing in public before my supply levels out.
I bought one from target in a cup size larger than what I currently wear. I figure I can go get a few more after dd comes as long as I have one to get me thru the first week or so.
I had a 36H bra size BEFORE getting pregnant. Thank god it hasn't changed much, just the rib cage.
Obviously I buy from a specialty store. So I called them and asked when I should come in for a fitting. They said a week before the due date and they would measure the ribcage then (which should be consistent) but go one cup size up to allow for milk to come in.
