I am starting to hate my department

Things are changing, slowly, but noticeably. At Christmas we got an email telling us that we had to keep our offices holiday neutral unless we don't see a lot of foot traffic....we are HR, everyone has lots of foot traffic. But we couldn't offend those who might not celebrate, so the main areas were to be free of ANYTHING related to ANY holiday. It was very bah humbuggy.

We have to have VP approval before we can have a party, cause again we don't want to offend anyone.

Then the VP said we were not allowed to wear capri pants anymore. Or flip flop style shoes.

Then she started requiring everyone to memorize the mission and vision.

Now they are requiring volunteers from each area of the department to help out with some vendor conference. REQUIRING. My manager just got an email "I still need 1 volunteer from your area". We are a three person office, none of us having anything to do with this conference or any interest in it, but apparently one of us has to volunteer.

I wanted to work here because of the fun, family atmosphere...not this corporate bullsh!t. It is a freaking public, learning institution for goodness sakes. Thankfully I am somewhat removed from it since we are not in the same building as the others, but I can see the stress from it all on my manager's face. There are whispers going around with our clients about how much longer it will be before she quits. Everyone is concerned about her. Not to mention it makes me not want to get promotions cause that would only put me closer to the VP and her rules. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

holy cow. That sounds just like my last job. It was originally so fun and relaxed. Then my manager started micro-managing the shiit out of everything. Including forcing peeps to take 15 min. breaks at exact times that she specified. Was never like that before.

thankfully, I met DH and moved away. Girl who I trained to replace me (now one of my BFF's) absolutely HATES it there now.

why do people in power screw with things when they are working just fine?
