of COURSE it's a holiday. (religious awareness fail)

My CSA pickup is at a synagogue. I was told to call before dropping the paperwork off. I could mail it, but there's 3 checks in there for a good chunk of money and I don't want anything to happen or lose my spot if they're delayed. So I call this afternoon and basically I interrupted some meeting re: whatever Jewish holiday it is today and no I could not drop anything off, they're going home.

Whoops Embarrassed I felt like an ass, but how was I supposed to know?

  • Don't feel bad, I'm Jewish and I had to google earlier to figure out what holiday it was today. Besides, why are they answering the phones if they're in the middle of something?

  • I wouldn't be offended if a person of another faith didn't realize the date of a holiday I celebrate, and I would anticipate the reciprocal.   You didn't know -- it's not like you were deliberately calling on a holiday to be rude.  Not a big deal, IMO.

That's what I think too.  I used to nanny for a jewish family and they were always super understanding about stuff like that.  If anything they used it to help educate.  I learned a lot...and appreciate it too!
