Remain calm...

So my coworkers are ribbing me about being pregnant.  I have a thick skina nd enoy the good-natured jokes that randomly circulate through the office but I am starting to get a bit peeved now.  Here's the story:

Office "boss" is leaving next week for vacaction so he sent out a humorous e-mail saying who would be in charge while he was gone.  He added the line

If M*** goes into labor while I'm gone make sure to congratulate her and J****".  The joke being that J is not my husband but a guy in the office.  I replied to the boss "I can do better than J**** with some tongue in cheek comments.  But others, including J, have now jumped on the wagon and are doing reply-to-all comments.  J finally took a random baby photo, photo shopped the head of this complete d-bag former employee (fired for sexual harassment among other things) onto the baby, then put Jackson's BIlly Jean as a soundtrack and sent it out to the whole office.   Yes, it's funny.  But I HATED that d-bag who he pasted onto the baby head.  So I can handle the jokes but I can't handle having that douche-wad being in ANYWAY mentioned in the context of my pregnany and baby.  I know I am being over senstitive but Yuck....yuck, yuck.

I know my bosses wife's number.  Would it be cruel to get her in on it and set him up for introducing the whole joke to begin with?  maybe ask her to send me an embarassing photo of him or something?  Or should I just let it go?

Re: Remain calm...

  • I would let it go, but I also think I work in a more professional environment than you do as I wouldn't have responded like that in the first place.

Let it go. You participated in the "fun" - just let it die out on it's own.
  • I would let it go. Stuff like that would NOT fly around here and the more you dig yourself in the worse you look if someone does bring it up later IMO.

Ya, difference is I didn't CC the entire office, just sent my reply to the original sender.  But your right...I'll get over it.  I realize it really is that I just can't stand the fired employee....just bringing up his name gives me the creeps.

  • My office is like that, sometimes the jokes go a little too far.  I would let it go.  That's the fastest way to end it.

To everyone that posted thank you.

Funny thing is my office is actually very professional.  I think it comes down to the fact that most of us have been working here for several years (there's only @ 20 of us).  So we've really become kind of like family.  We know each others' spouses, our kids go to school together, we invite the "whole gang" to birthday parties and celebrations...

So like a family we feel comfortable enough to joke with each other and we also take care of and support each other.  I'm just being overly sensitive...haven't slept well for days, husband is super stressed right now...

Thanks again for the support.  The whole thing is over now.

  • Yes, I would definitely get the bosses wife in on it and retaliate.

It seems like you work for a fun company. Work is boring when everyone's too serious all the time.
